I think Fuzzy has an interesting idea.  I dropped my ATA membership for a while as I wasn't showing or breeding and was on a tight budget.  I wonder if an Associate level might encourage some people to join.  After all, if I have my facts correct, members without full trakehners can't vote on many issues anyway, right?  But yet, they still pay the same membership, correct?  I wonder if the owner of just one gelding might enjoy feeling a part of the ATA as an associate member.

Didn't there used to be a non-voting membership (by some name or another)?  I know that when we bought the girls, the one-year "free membership" we received from buying a horse from an ATA member was a non-voting type of thing.

I see there is a Junior membership for $35.

We never got a "one year free membership" after purchasing our Trakehners.  Hmm.

When you buy a horse from an ATA member, they can notify the ATA for you so you get a free year (non-voting) membership.  Or I think you could have notified the ATA.  But I wonder how many people actually pursue that.

When I bought my first Trakehner, I got a one-year membership to the ATA.  I can tell you with no hesitation that's why I got my 10 year pin this week.  So, at least one person pursued it.  Grin

If you go to the latest newsletter, on page 9 there are a list of member benefits.  It includes the free one-year membership.

This newsletter also identifies about 49 new members who have joined the ATA since the last newsletter was issued.

I just spoke w/ someone at the ATA (she didn't identify herself).  She said that if you purchase a registered Trakehner from an ATA member, you will get one year free membership.  Looks like I'll get my first membership for free.   Kiss
