I love Trakehners!

Firstly, I have to express my condolences to Danette Ball of Golden Ears Trakehners, on the sudden loss of her mare Czarina.
Several days ago Czarina, a lovely TB mare, owned by Danette Ball, gave birth to a lovely filly. All was well... everyone was ecstatic over this beautiful new life. By morning it was apparent that Czarina was having serious difficulties and unfortunately had to be humanely destroyed within hours, leaving this beautiful filly an orphan.
After witnessing it all, Barczatka, a 27 year old Trakehner mare for which I have a deep affection, (I was blessed with her presence on my farm, and proud to belong to her for a long time, prior to her going last year with Hadrian to live at Danette's farm) immediately received this orphan into her life openly and as her own. Barczatka allows this filly to nurse at will and has completely accepted her as "her baby". It is the sweetest thing that I have ever had the priviledge to see. In my eyes, Barczatka is "MARE EXTRAORDINARE" !!!! The love in this mare's eyes says it all!!!
My heart goes out to Danette for her loss...... and my and Danette's respect and admiration for this mare cannot be described.

How sad, but it's wonderful that the filly still gets to have a "real mom".

I'm so sorry for the loss of of the mare. How wonderful to have a mare step in and take over. At 27, does the mare have milk or is the baby hand fed as well? These good ol' girls really earn their keep, even long after they're no longer able to have babies.

Yes, Barczatka still has milk. She had a healthly colt of her own last year, and after letting her keep him a little longer, as he was to be her last baby, she never "dried up". The filly is however, being supplemented as well.

My condolences on the loss of Czarina. What a sad--and yet wonderful tale. Barczatka truly is a blessing, and how great that the filly has a new mom! Barczatka isn't ready to stop being a mom by any stretch. I'll bet it won't be long before no supplementation is necessary!

I think that this belongs, as well, under the heading "Trakehners Never Cease to Amaze Me!!" With Tears in my Eyes, and Blessings for All!
