I just wanted to share some photo's of the new colt up and about. Right now canter seems to be his favorite gait.

Schwalbenzug had quite a lot of white: 4 white socks and some markings on his face, too! I don't have my old stallion book handy to check the face markings. I'l try to remember to look for him later tonight, but don't hold me to that since I'm often pooped after riding after work!

Congrats Terri! Glad I was almost with you during birth. Being on the phone while the mare starts to contract is quite interesting.
Can we say "stallion prospect?"

I ready somewhere recently that white over the nose and lip is an indication of the sabino gene. Is that true? Could that be why he has so much white?

Thank you Maren, he is lovely and I'm thrilled
Shady - I told you she was going that day and she did not make a liar out of me
Jennifer - if you have a pic of Schwalbenzug and if it is possible I would love a scanned copy
Joy - I really don't know I guess there could be a gene hiding in there somewhere. I'm just thrilled that he was stamped with the flash, when that coat turns black or black/bay he will be stunning! I will include a couple of pics from her foal from last year, he to has alot of white. I really did not think much of it as he is by a JC stallion called Bright White who is a paint with no paint (ie all white). Of course I felt the white came from his sire.

I'll give the scanning a try tomorrow (if I remember to bring the book into work, although the last time I tried to do this was unsuccessful!). I'm really surprized the ATA took the photos of the stallions who stood in the US off of the website. They have photos in the older version of the stud books. I have a older photo from the German book and a more recent one from the old ATA book. I also saw him in person at Dressage at Devon. Years ago, of course!
I looked at Schwalbenzug again last night and he did have 4 pretty tall, irregular, white socks, one on the front went up to his knee in the back. He also had a lot of white on his face.

Post it here, too, please!
I wonder why the photos would be removed?? I'm thinking that the links were deleted with all the new work that's being done. Maybe they're not even aware of it.

I was able to get a copy of the page about Schwalbenzug from the 1976 Hengstbuch. I only had about an hour last night to look for my other book with a picture of him when he was older, so I'll try to find the other pic this weekend.
I was able to play around with the file and I managed to get it saved to the jpg format and I cropped it a bit around the edges and made it a little smaller. So, I should now be able to attach it to this message...if all goes well. I e-mailed the bmp file to StarryNight already. If its not viewable, then, hopefully, this picture will be!
Also, something else that's interesting about the white markings is that many of Condus's offspring had lots of white markings as foals. After they turned gray, you might not notice it at first glance.
I don't think the loss of the older stallion photos from the ATA site has anything to do with any recent activity there.

GREAT info. Jennifer! Would love to see any pics out there of young Condus offspring w/white markings. Taz's mom was over 20 when he was born, so no white visible except a snip on her nose.
Taz has only a few white hairs on his forehead. Could he recessively carry a gene for this color and when crossed w/a mare that also has this tendency, you get a super flashy guy like Terri's?
Hennie has no white, and her dam & all 3 sisters tend to produce solid color foals, yet her Taz foal has that cute white heart on his forehead. More and more interesting . . .
(DK, guess the jury's still out on where this white's coming from!)

If you look at the photo of Leonidas on the ATA website you can see that it looks like he has white front hooves and maybe a big blaze...his nose is very white anyway! Can't tell with the photos of Tarim and Potentate (no photo of Templeritter) about white...maybe no socks as the hooves look dark. My Condus mare had a big star and a snip, no white feet. There was a photo of a Condus son that was in one of the German books I have at home (his name began with an F), but he had quite a bit of white, too. I'll look at him again later.
