My Filly's First Longing - Pics
« on: February 21, 2004, 11:34:53 PM »

Here is my filly's first free longing session. She's a coming three year old (in a month) TB/Trak. Please excuse my terrible picture taking ability. I was using a digital camera and it would take the picture a second after I pushed the button. Therefore, I got some shots at odd points. If anyone feels like they can critique from the pics please feel free. I'd love to hear what you all have to say.

Looks like you're free longeing her?  You actually didn't do too badly for having to compensate for the digital delay.  The last photo, unfortunately, wouldn't show.  If she were on a longe line, I'd suggest getting her head lower, but free longeing is a whole different deal.  She looks relaxed and that's all I'd be looking for on the first time out.

We're still free longing. She isn't completely consistent yet about going one direction. Every once in a while she turns around and I didn't want her getting caught in the line. She is solid on the voice commands though. This was also the first time she was worked in a bridle, so there was a little distraction there. She's leaving for my trainer's next week. She's putting 2 months of training on her and then we're throwing her back out into the pasture for 6 more months.

What a sweetie!  Can't believe Izzy's already wearing a bridle & free longing!  They grow up SO fast.   Kiss

Don't worry about "getting" her head anywhere.  When she's more balanced she will naturally stretch and reach through her back.
