Keep us informed & keep a close eye on her. Probably the most 'telling' sign for me was when looking @ her from behind no longer looked like she'd swallowed a beach ball. The baby had dropped down in preparation for his grand debut!
Hennie foaled about 6 hrs. later. Good luck, keeping my fingers crossed for you & your girl!
p.s. what's your mare's name?

Thanks Joy and Twingates, well my maiden mare's name is Leena, I like your descrption and this is the case since 2 days. She looks slimmer, baby has come down. Yesterday night, she was kicking her belly, swinging tail, so I sais, this is the night ! Nothing. This morning, she lay down so I call the vet; all of the sudden here that big truck for sand delivery who nock on door, so Leena got back on her feet and forget about the rest.
How many days a maiden can retain foaling ?

Ah! Now that's a question! I knew someone who bred Morgans and she had a mare that had foaled 9 times and managed to hold off on EVERY ONE of them until she was alone. The last one was particularly funny. After doing foal watch in the barn, and with a monitor, the owner turned the mare out with the rest of the mares, went back into the barn to get something, and 10-15 minutes later walked out to the pasture (which was a *very* short distance from the barn, and the mare had foaled. I had a mare that did something similar. After 2 weeks of foal watch, I turned her out and left for an hour. Baby was standing nursing when I got back and I think as soon as she saw me drive out, she lay down and poped the baby.

They certainly DO seem to want as much privacy as possible for this. She's probably waiting for the precise moment she feels alone. Perhaps you can hide & take "sneak peeks" ?/
Do you have a camera or monitor of some type in the stall? Think I remember you saying Leena is turned out quite a bit (if so, keep this up, the more exercise the better w/baby this close to term . . . she's GOT to be uncomfortable!).

Hi ! Well 350 days and nothing. Few signs and that is it. She is out right now with her mate and is in very good shape.
Farrier came this morning so brand new feet. She lay down quite a bit and more often. I try to leave her alone. I do have a fisher price kit but no cam; the barn is 50 feet away from my house.
Keep watching ! I hope for soon !!!

Well you would not believe this: no baby ! She must have lost it at the beginning.
Now my vet has confirmed pregnancy throughout the year, vaccinated, making money on my back. I have no name to qualify this way of praticing.
Leena had kept growing as I kept feeding...I end up with a very fat lady but already, after cutting grain and doing exercice, she looks better.
Since then I am dealing with Suzanne Lawrence who found out the rose pot. I spoke with Ducati owner and sometimes next week, we will inseminate Leena again. Suzanne will do all the follow up and I organise myself to get rid of the other one. She is at 10 minutes driving and operate Transbio Intl., which a embryo transfert facilities.
Sad story, but many things to learn through this. I keep smiling.
So this is the report.....no comments.

That is absolutely unbelievable! Do you have any recourse for this vet that continued to confirm a pregnancy that was non-existant? At the very least I'd report this to a local veterinary board. If there's no way to determine when she lost the foal, then sort of your word against the vet's, but if your new vet can confirm how long she's been 'open' (may be able to tell from condition of uterus), perhaps you can get some of the charges refunded.
Good luck on your next foal & sorry to hear such a bizarre tale of veterinary medicine.

Don't forget that there's a large window of time that vets can't safely do pelvic exams and ultrasounds. If she continued to look pregnant and act pregnant, I'm not sure the vet would be at fault. False pregnancies can be hard to tell from actual ones. I've even heard of a mare going into labor and delivering--nothing.

Hi everyone, special hello to Deb here.
Joy I agree it must be difficult to see at a certain stage if the mare is pregnant.
I did not know, it was my first experience. This guy (vet) has 25 years of practice; he physically check her 3 weeks ago and told me she was late, tired being pregnant.
One week after, my best friend Suzanne Lawrence came over and did the same exam; she told me no baby.
There is numerous of complaint regarding this guy but we lost 4 vets last year, and he is the only one left. For sure we will address a complaint to the Vet corporation, and to him too.
Now I am very very lucky for having now Suzanne Lawrence from Transbio. Leena is at her farm right now and we will try again with Ducati. By next week, I will be in the boat again.
Meantime, my canadian mare has given us a beautiful colt; it is not a trakehner, it is not Ducati's foal, but still very nice and healthy. Next year, I hope for Ducati's foal. Keep having faith.

That must be very frustrating, Leena. I'm glad you have another baby to enjoy, though. Where do we see photos? I know this is a Trakehner forum, but I love to see all the babies.

Hi Deb, Cute ! and so handsome already.
I am going to the Transbio farm to see how things are going with Leena and to schedule the good timing for semen collection.
I will keep you post with this issue. I still think Ducati/Leena's match will be a good one. Hope next year is the good one.
Bye Bye

Hi everyone !!!!!
So Leena has been bred again with Ducati on Saturday and next check is on June 30th. She is back home and I rode her yesterday; she is very quiet. Otherwise she is spending her time in the pasture while I am working paying the bills !!!!!!
I got in contact with former president of Vet ass. here (he is a very good friend of mine) and I sent an official complaint regarding the vet's professional services yesterday, with copies of bills and so on. The former president told me to go ahead with this.
So Hopefully, I will be able to ride my mare this summer, maybe do a show or two, and have a nice Ducati's foal next year. And the icing on the top would be to get refund from the vet !! Then it would be Christmas !!!!!
Bye everyone and have a great breeding season and show season.

Just noticed the last post looks like I'm "sticking my tongue" out @ you. Was supposed to look like concentrating so hard, the tongue was hanging out. That's what I get for thinking. Still sending good thoughts for an '05 Ducati foal your way.

Hearing all your experiences, just makes me so incredibly excited I just want to pop! I am planning on starting a stud farm in about 8 years and just cannot wait for stories like these!! You are all so so blessed to be experiencing all this now.
Thanks for warming my heart!! Not quite sure how it will all work for me or how I will start, but the planning has began and my dream is starting to turn into a future reality.
