Well, I have two registered daughters  Grin  Holly is in the official stud book, I'll eventually take her to an approval

Off topic, but how can she be in the OSB if she hasn't been approved?

Sorry, I misspoke.  Holly is a full Trakehner, out of two approved full Trakehner parents.  No, she has not been to an approval.

Only a few Trakehner stallions are presented to other registeries so their books are small. I'm glad to see Windfall was presented to the AHS. It'll open up his bookings big time.

If you look at stallions in other registeries, they are in a number of registeries in order to broaden their mare base.

Dutch stallions are an exception for the most part.

But the German-bred stallions are in multiple registeries.

Maybe it is time to revisit this thread?

Trakehners International is doing a superb job of promoting Trakehners and that can only help.

There was a message in this discussion about lowering stud fees helping with getting more mares.  Well, as a mare owner, I can tell you in my experience the stud fee is the least of my concerns.  Veterinary bills are killer.  Unfortunately, I have to haul my mare to the vet, board her(and foal), pay for every semen shipment, ultrasound (and there are always plenty of those), palpation, flush, and every other treatment that may be in said veterinarian's protocol.  It is absolutely cost prohibitive for me to breed my mare unless I can find a match for my mare close enough to haul her to someone who can do some of the work themselves.  I spent an absolute fortune with my vet last year.  But, I probably live in an area where good repro vets are few and far between and they are very very expensive.  $1500 -$2500 for a stallion is nothing by the time you pay Dr. Dolittle!  Whew, now I feel better! My goodness!  I don't think I've ever spent that much getting a mare pregnant--even when she never settled.  Last year I had several ultrasounds, flushings, boarding, etc. and it came to about $800, and that was including my other mare that foaled!  My vet, btw, is not a repro vet, per se, but she's very good.  Around here, every large animal vet is breeding cattle, horses, llamas, you name it, and they learn how to do the job well or they quickly lose clients.  I'm fortunately enough to have an equine vet who is very good with repro and an alternative, holistic vet to boot.
