The first of our 2 imminent foals arrived - 2 weeks early and all by herself this morning.  Classical Jazz by Fabius, delivered a gorgeous filly by Happy Hour sometime in the week hours of the morning - darn it, I hate to miss births...

But even without me, both mom & baby are doing fine.  The baby's going to be a true black like her dam.  She has a small white star & a "splash" of white on her right rear heel.  I'll get a picture out as soon as she's strong enough to go out in the sunshine.  Right now mom & babe are both resting happily in a stall bedded with grass hay since there's no straw to be bought.  It's ok with Jazz - the stall's just one big buffet... Congrats!  And what a lucky mare you have to live in the kitchen like that!

Of course you are lucky to have the hay.  In my area it's getting so scarce that people are buying really yucky hay (you know, the stuff that is fit for goats, sheep, archery targets and mulch - typically $.75 to $1.00 per bale) at the sales for mostly $2.40 to sometimes $3.00 per bale - and feeding it until the new cuttings can be gotten in without getting soaked.

Rather than pay those prices for garbage, I've been using the fenced yard as pasture . . .

Anyhow, enjoy the baby - and good luck with the next one as well.   Smiley

Kari & Johnny:  Again, a very BIG CONGRATULATIONS on the arrival of your new filly.  This must be a "girl" year - at least, thus far.  She's beautiful and as with Kosmisch, we very much look forward to following their development and progress.  They are certainly off to a very good start!  We may be able to make that 2nd "marathon" trip sometime in the summer to visit and see your "kids."  It is our hope that these kids are as rewarding to you as they are to us.  Very best wishes for a very healthy, happy and successful future.  Kind Regards.

Congratulations Kari!  You seem to be having so many babies!

Be sure to send some pix along for Happy Hour's brag section in the MWT site--I am maybe reminding you before Renee does?  Wink

Good luck with all of your little crumbsnatchers!
