I am pleased to announce the arrival S :Daturday night of a very tall colt by Oskar II out of Pyrrha by Graditz. He was born somewhat premature, and with out the benefit of his mothers colostrum. She had been dripping and spraying milk for almost 2 weeks previous. We gave him colostrum from a Clydesdale mare, and is on antibiotics just in case as well. He is strong and is doing well. He definitely looks like his father as he is chestnut with opposite white socks, very long legs, and a long neck.

congratulations Shawnda! Please post photos when you can- I am very curious to see the new foal. I am eager to see what Oskar II is siring. I am ever so hopeful that a stallion with an outstanding performance pedigree AND outstanding performance record will sire foals of excellent caliber. There is nothing better for mare owners and the breed than to get a chance to actually see and use stallions that are actually proven performance horses- that is what makes for increasingly successful horses.
Congratulations again- this should be a lovely foal from what I have seen and read of the mare as well!

Thanks Eileen and Lisabeth. The mare is Pyrrha by Graditz out of Pillau out of Pasteur. She is a full sister to Pennant and is a very large mare. She was the highest scoring mare for Canada at the CTHS inspections last fall, narrowly beating out her sister by one point. I must say however that Oskar is a very prepotent stallion. The baby really does not look like his mom at all except that he is very tall, but both parents are 17. hh. He will be very elegant however with a long neck and very long legs.

Congrats on the new kid. They are SUCH fun when things go right! I haven't seen Oskar in person, only a couple pix, though I have seen Hokan Thorn ride many times (drool, drool) and recognize that he has very high standards that he expects from his horses. Especially interesting to me is Oskar's Arabian heritage. Does he reflect it strogly in his way of going? And how about the baby? I'd like to compare Oskar to a former "comrade", Donnerkeil, who doesn't have any Arab blood for many generations, but very much looks like he has a lot of Arab in him.

Congrats!!!! I can't wait to see pictures, I am still thinking about breeding one of my mares to him. I was so impressed with him when I saw him at the ATA meeting.

Shawnda, congratulations! I would love to see pictures of that one. I would expect a very elegant horse and a hell of a mover from the bloodlines...

I am going to try to attach a photo to this message. I recently bought a new digital camera and I am just learning how to use it. This is the Oskar II colt out of Pyrrha by Gradtiz. He is currently 13.2+ hh at 3 1/2 months of age.

Shawnda,
this is ONE good foal!!! Absolutly impressive. If he keeps growing, don't ever think of gelding him! Excellent topline for his age, the neck is one to die for!! Nice expression in the face too. Congratulations on such an outstanding colt!
Oskar II could prove to be really influencial in the breed in North America. It will ber VERY interesting to see him with some Arab/TB background in the mare. Great addition for the ATA program, and some very fresh and new bloodlines for you guys!

Thanks for your comments Suzette, Maren, Ingrid. His mother is very much hunter in movement and conformation, but she does have an excellent neck set and topline, as does OskarII. Oskar II's movement also came through as you can see in the photo, as the colt got about 50 % of the elevation in movement that his sire has. Which is just about what I was aiming for. I would like to see more reach in his movement however. I would like to rebreed to Oskar II but I am concerned about how tall this colt will grow, so I'll wait until he is a yearling to make my decision to rebreed Pyrrha. She will be competeting in Pre-Green Hunters next year as well. I did breed a half sister of Pyrrha to Oskar this year as well, so I'm really looking forward to what she produces. She is about 16.1 hh (by Graditz out of Babylon by Peron), a more "compact" mare and a better match for Oskar. I think Oskar II will make a very positive impact on the Trakehner breed in North America, and Hokan is very good to work with as well.
