Names- OK guys, need help!
« on: April 01, 2002, 08:48:31 AM »

Cool  New baby!  Born on 3/27, a colt by Kreshendo out of Angara by Graditz.  The owner, Nancy Shea is asking for help on the name for this one.  He is a HUGE black colt with two short hind socks.
She wants something special as she says he is the absolute nicest colt she has ever produced in the 15 years she has been breeding, and she wants to keep him for a stallion candidate.
We need an "A" name.  She wants to find something "patriotic" (her first thought was "Amerikan"), and she would like something "musical" as is the case with most of the Kreshendo offspring.
How about some ideas out there??  I haven't been much help to her.

Grin  Congratulations on your grandson, Suzette!

Here are some "a" music words and meanings:

Accelerando, accel - Gradually faster.
Accent - > placed above a note to indicate stress or emphasis.
Adagio - Slow; slower than andante, faster than largo.
Addolorato - Sorrowfully. A due - Return to unison after divisi.
Affrettando - Hurrying. Agilmente - Lively. Agitato - Agitated; with excitement.
Al, all', alla, alle - To; used with other words, e.g. al Fine (to the end).
Al coda - "To the coda."
Aleatory, or aleatoric music - Chance music in which the performers are free to perform their own material and/or their own manner of presentation.
Al fine - To the end.
Alla breve -  Cut time; meter in which there are two beats in each measure and a half note receives one beat.
Allargando, allarg - Slowing of tempo, usually with increasing volume; most frequently occurs toward the end of a piece.
Allegretto - Slower than allegro. Allegro - Quick tempo; cheerful.
Al segno - Return to the sign, Dal segno.
Alteration - The raising or lowering of a note by means of an accidental.
Alto clef - The C clef falling on the third line of the staff. Most of the time is used by the viola.
Ancora - Repeat. Andante - Moderate tempo.
Andantino - Slightly faster than andante. A niente - To nothing, e.g. to ppp.
Animato - Animated; lively.
A piacere - Freedom in performance. Synonymous with ad libitum.
Appassionato - Impassioned.
Appoggiatura - A nonharmonic tone, usually a half or whole step above the harmonic tone, which is performed on the beat and then resolved.
Arpeggio - A term used to describe the pitches of a chord as they are sung or played one after the other, rather than simultaneously.
Arrache - Strong pizzicato.

Or my favorite, A CAPELLA

You can check out babynamer.com for some "A" people names.

Thanks for the list! I like Andante and Allegretto.
Funny that you should say "Acapella" as your first choice.  Nancy has bred this mare to Kreshendo 3 times.  The first filly(now a 3 yr old) she named "Akapella".  The second (a colt) was named "Amadayos".
Do you have any ideas for something Patriotic sounding?

Ok I have to say I like A Piacere(not sure how you pronounce) simply because of the definition. Especially since she might keep it as a stallion prospect!
Wink

If the c in that name is pronounced with a K sound you can switch it to a K. In keeping with Kreshendo.

Suzette, how about something real East Prussian?
Allenstein for example, was a village in East Prussia.

In case you want something "musical" only, why not Amadeus (Mozart)?

Andante, Asti Spumate (that's a champagne in Europe), A Priori, Aliamento, Angelino, Asterius...

Not too creative today, sorry. Tough letter!

Hi, Suzette:

I've been thinking about the patriotic angle and came up with just a couple - but I'll keep trying.  All of these are available (for good reason?)  Grin Haha.  Congrats on the colt!

Abe Lincoln
American Pie
Apple Pie
Ascot (not patriotic, but has a ring..)

Is "Amerigo" after the Italian mapmaker Amerigo Vespucci available?

Or how about Amore, Automatic, Auftakt (musical), Atom, Aristocrat, Apostle, Apocalypse, Ansturm, Anthem, or Andrew?

You guys are great!  I just checked this whole list, and only a handful of them are available still....  geez, "A's" must be the largest family in this country.  I wonder if anybody ever counted it up.
I picked out a few that I will pass on to Nancy.  I'll let you know what she picks.
Thanks!!! Grin
