Thanks:) So if 30% is considered Good, where is poor and where is exceptional? I know the only real test that matters is pregnancy rate, but just interested, if I am going to be buying/using Frozen semen
We'll be talking to Select Breeders again today & I'll see if I can get some guidelines... There's also a repro thread on the other forum with some experts that contribute often that could probably be more specific.
While 30% progressive motility is acceptable for commercial purposes, a range of 40-50%+ is, of course, much better. There are a number of variables that enter into the equation, but the % of normal, healthy, forward-swimming spem cells is very important. Also part of the equation is who and how the semen is collected, processed and frozen, as this can certainly affect the overall quality of the semen. We've used SBS for a number of years as they are tops in the country for the methodology and quality of their semen freezing, not to mention their protocol with fresh/chilled semen and ET. I would say that if you see frozen semen with a progressive motility in the upper 40's to mid 50's, that is excellent and certainly increases chances of conception. Very best wishes.
