TANZBRISE by Windfall out of Tariana

We are probably shooting more for May & June than April, since everyone will still look like yaks! I need some serious shows for Elfi and Diva and some good foot-wetters for the not-ready-for-prime-time troop.
We haven't joined USDF or AHSA (or whatever any of those are called anymore) and frankly, I am not sure which ones we have to join. So please help the neophyte!

There is a USDF - BC qualifier at Derbyshire on May 11 and 12. I'm currently waiting for the show bill. Entries close on that one April 22, but many shows will still take entries for a week after the official date. You can either join USAE (was AHSA) or pay a non-member fee. Both owner and handler (if separate people) have to join USDF, I think. I'd have to check but there is at the very least a non-member fee. I do a lot of shows, so joining makes more sense financially for me. Also, the horse has to have a USDF number to compete in the breeding classes. It's not that much to get a lifetime number - and your guys go to show homes anyway, so having the number already is a (very small) selling point. The horses need a current coggins, but shouldn't need a health cert unless the individual farm asks for it, which they usually don't (unless you're hauling across state lines, of course). And if you've trained on a triangle like what they use at inspections, then you know the program. One breeding judge I've shown under asked us to go around twice at both the walk and trot, the other did not.
Hope that helps some.

I too am interested in a few easy shows next year, and wonder if there is a mailing list of some kind for breed shows in the Ohio/Michigan area. I am not yet a member of the USAE, USDF, USCTA, or even the ATA (although I have a young Trakehner), and wonder how extensive my memberships need to be in order to locate and attend a few semi-local shows next summer. Any information is appreciated. Thanks!

Go to the USDF and USAE web sites. Many of next year's shows are already in the making. Many of the farms who have sancioned shows also have schooling shows, or at least can direct you to them. Also, you really should consider getting Equine Times. They have a somewhat extensive competition calendar. Get to the stallion expo in East Lansing MI in the spring - Dressage and hunter-jumper people are there promoting clubs and farms that host shows. If there's a similar trade show in Ohio, try to get to it, too. And if you're willing to mosey over here to Indiana's Hoosier Horse Fair, you will be bombarded with even more info - speaking of which now is the time to think about getting breed booths at these places . . . . . .

Thanks for your reply. I would be very interested in the Stallion Expo in East Lansing. Is this expo USDF or USAE affiliated, sporthorse oriented, or is it strictly an ATA event? Is there a website where I can find more detailed information? (Being located in the NW part of Ohio, MI events are often closer and more convenient than those in OH.) I am new to the Trakehner breed (having aquired my filly completely by accident) and now find myself facinated by the breed and interested in learning more. Thanks!

THe stallion Expo in East Lansing is not affiliated with the USDF or USAE. Nor is it a Trakehner event. It is put on by the Mich Horse Council (I believe MSU, too - I think they own the facility that is used since the event outgrew the Lansing Civic Center). It's one of those events where many breeds and many sports are being promoted and there's no possilbe way to take everything in.
