Ibikus-Impuls - Enrico Caruso cross
« on: May 22, 2003, 08:45:59 AM »

I posted below about the Ibikus-Impuls x2-Donauwind bloodlines.  Now I've got another question:

How would this bloodline cross with the Enrico Caruso son Kovington?  I like him and have talked to his owner, but would like to see if I can get other opinions.  You can email me privately if you'd rather not post.

Thanks,
Adrian

It's quite hard to judge on a hypothetical mating w/o knowing what the mare looks like, but the Mahagoni and Ibikus/Impuls lines have always "nicked" very well, that's for sure.

It is especially interesting that Kovington's dam is a Schwalbenherbst daughter and thus brings in more Impuls blood. Additionally, this "Schwalbe" line has proven to be highly successful with Ibikus blood.

Just from the epdigree, it looks all fine, question is, what type of mare do you have.

Toni is a very good moving stallion, BTW, have you ever met him in person?

Thanks Maren.

I know that looking at a pedigree on "paper" is one thing vs looking at the individuals : )

My mare is anglo-trakehner.  She's a nice mover, but could use elasticity.  Despite her "firey" personality, she has been a great horse for an amature (me) to learn & show on.  We evented a little, but mainly focused on dressage until she was injured.

Her first foal was by a SWB and he looks a lot like his sire -- and has many of the things I was looking for in a future dressage horse.  Now I'd like to breed trakehner before she gets too old (she'll be 14 next year).

You can see her on my website: www.elkenesplace.homestead.com

her SWB gelding is also there, altho I have not updated it since last Sept : o   He's matured more and looks really nice these days : )

I haven't seen Kovington move yet -- a video is on the way to me and I can't wait to see it!

I would be breeding the foal to keep (unless it just has no interest in dressage).

That way my 2 year old will be 4 (and able to do somethings) by the time the foal arrives (if I breed her in 2004).

From a novice eye, your mare looks nice.  Great photos of her movement.  The one thing that I notice is that she needs freer shoulder movement.  Experts, please chime in if I am wrong.

I only noticed this because my mare had the same issue to work on.

Good luck with her breeding season. Cheesy

I'll second that.. saw Kovington in Florida as well and he knocked my socks off with his movement and attitude - a total sweetheart, easy going - and boy does he float!

I had also inquired about Toni, and this is how Kumi replied:

"I am going to let the stallion manager handle these requests.  If you are still interested in Toni (Kovington), would you please call him at (434) 283-1369.  His name is Bob Orton – ...  His email is sherrajkosch@lynchburg.net, if that is an easier route for you...I prefer that interested parties actually talk with Bob because Toni is a new stallion and I want to make sure that they discuss all aspects of the match.  It's hard for me to say exactly what Toni will pass on, at this point, but Bob and Sherra have worked with Toni for a year now, and they know him better than anyone.  So, I hope you'll call them and get all the information you need."

Shadytrak is right, she could use more freedom in the shoulder; generally needs to have more elastic gaits.

I also need a stallion who is correct in front, she toes in on one leg.  Based on her first foal, a stallion with a good neck set that throws a good neck set would be good-- since TOni is young, I won't know what he throws until his foals arrive next year.

Wow-- after all these comments on how nice he moves, I'm really looking forward to the video!!  Grin

Kovington has another thing going for him--you couldn't find either a nicer or more knowledgeable guy to work with than Bob Orton.

I started Toni under saddle as a 3 year old and had him training about a year. What a wonderful horse! He has a great mind and super movement. He does float when he moves! If you would like to see a couple of pics that shows his neck set, go to this link on Dressage Daily : http://www.dressagedaily.com/2003/dd_200304/dd_20030421e.html.

Elkene-

I ride Kovington and he makes me look so forward to the next day and ride that I can hardly sleep at night. We have had 100+ stallions go thru our barn and we have never had one with such a clear and kind mind. There are to many examples to list, I could go on forever about him. There is a current picture of him at www.dressagedaily.com/2003/dd_200304/dd_20030421e.html
We will know more about him next year when his foals hit the ground, but he himself is very elastic. The one thing that I hope all of his foals get from him is his willingness towards work and life in general.
Gook luck with your breeding.

Wow-- I just followed the links to the new pictures -- he looks great!   Now I'm really looking forward to the video!!

Once I see it, if I still like what I see, Kumi said I should contact Sherra or Bob for more info.  It's cool that Sherra stopped by the Metting Place with the links.

Thanks!!
