I LOVE Trakehners!
|
This morning at 6 AM west coast time, I had the honor of receiving delivery on Indiana, out of Inga by Radom, Unkenruf's last foal. After a year of waiting, I finally laid my own eyes on her!! I wanted another filly by Unkenruf for several years and as his last born foal, she is IT. She is just a yearling and arrived from Vermont looking every bit her father's daughter.....chestnut, tall white stockings in back, white star, blond in her tail, fabulous topline, great legs, wonderful suspension (in the walk/jog up the hill), and sensitive, intelligent eyes.
Despite being tired and frightened by the 4 day trip, which included driving through those storms with the killer tornadoes, she responded well to her new surroundings and is settling in nicely getting to know the new herd. She went straight for her hay and water, which overjoyed me.
It is such a relief to have her delivered safe, sound and gorgeous. It always worries me when they are on the road, especially when they are so young. I don't know how people who import babies deal with it. I did not sleep a wink last night!

Becky--too funny-until I was half way through your post, I thought you were talking about a new baby--guess I'm just in the nursery mindset. Congratulations--I'm so pleased for you.

sherry: Sorry to mislead you, but to me she is a "new baby" and I have waited for a long time for her. I told Tylord several years ago that I wanted a filly out of Inga by Unky so she promptly delivered two colts in two years! Indiana has one full sister, born the year I started asking for a filly but Debra would not sell her to me. So I have waited almost 4 years for this girl if you include this last year when she was back east!
And I am still awaiting the arrival of the "solution" to my "training problem of not stretching over the back" with my Enrico Caruso mare. She is due in the next 10 days and is maiden....so my adrenalin level is kind of high these days! I just want to get the second baby here safe and sound and then I can look forward to the summer.
By the way, I cannot wait to see your boy Fandango. Please let me know if he comes to the LA area for a show.

Beckie--you didn't mislead me--I was just zoned! I'm delighted for you about your new acquisition--and I'll keep my fingers crossed that she matures into the healthy and talented mare you deserve.
Right now, we are scheduled to show Fandango at the USDF Breeder's Series at Cool August Nights in Burbank--That is, of course, assuming that we can get a little more weight on him--he looks very Thoroughbreddy now, and is going through a growth spurt.
I know about the waiting up thing--I've got two mares in the maternity ward now--one was due May 6--but she went 383 last year with her Charly colt--the other was due May 7, and went 347--so I expect she's figure it out in the next week or so--At least I hope
