*** I am posting for Shawnda N, who is having computer issues and did not want this topic to slide by: ***

I wish to reply to the "breeding Issue" that is under Ursula Laikos letter.  I believe Lara Meyer and Sherri Tourino are working on mare inspection issues.  Could you please inform them that the regulation requiring two Inspectors to disapprove a mare was changed at the 2001 Membership Meeting.  What they have looked up are old regulations that has not yet been up-dated on the ATA web site.  I would hate for them to go through all the trouble of writing up something when they do not have the latest issue of the corporate rules and regulations

At the 2001 Membership meeting the amendment states:

5.  (to eliminate the requirement that two inspectors must disapprove a mare - page 19)
Amend Article X. Personal Inspection, by deleting the entire # 2 which currently provides:
" In the case of mares, at least two members of the Inspection Committee must concur in a disapproval.  The costs for the inspection are to be born by the owner of a mare."

Article X, section 2.  Cathy Hughes moved to adopt the changes as proposed, with Lou Shook seconding the motion.  Diane Hailey called the question. Question passed. Motion passed.  (25 in favor, 2 opposed.)
                                                                                    Thank-you, Shawnda Nadeau

Oops, I forgot about that change.  That was the year I brought my mare for inspection, so I was a little distracted from all of the excitement. Shocked

Now I'm really scratching my head.. I wonder what else has changed in the rules and regulations that the ATA website doesn't reflect???  Am I the only one going by these rules?  Huh Huh Huh  No wonder I'm swimmin' upstream!

Not having a set of current regulations does tend to complicate issues.  I complained about that (to poor Shawnda), remembering the poll I did a couple months back about letting mareowners do their own TS inseminations, only to discover that rule had been changed last season.  Shawnda said there is a new set available by request to the ATA office.

I am wondering if it would be possible for the office to, if not get the actual pages on the website revised, at least put a .PDF version up on the site that people could download and print themselves, which would save the ATA some funds in printing myriad copies which may or may not be distributed before becoming obsolete? I will suggest this to the office and help set it up if you guys think that would be something people would use.  Or are most people purists who want to get a book in their hands?

I agree with the pdf updates and the $$'s saved.  If everything that could be on the website were there (I know it's difficult to get it all there initially), the ATA would save money on paper, postage, and most of all, the time of our wonderful, but overworked staff.  I, for one would prefer things in files that I could print out only the parts I needed when I needed them.  I have too much paper in my traditional files now.  Save a tree! Wink

Since I have already stated my opinions on the mare inspections, I will refrain from doing so again.  My thanks, however, to Boss Mare, and everyone who makes these discussions possible.  Even if no changes occur, at least people have an opportunity to state opinions and possibly vent frustrations.  These help as well.  Again, my thanks.

I just saw in the ATA's latest newsletter that the board suggested the following: "#49 Have a Corporate Regulations for Dummies"

I would like to suggest that the ATA update the Corporate Rules/Regs on the website before making one for dummies.

I would like to suggest that the ATA update the Corporate Rules/Regs on the website and not presume the membership doesn't understand them... the Rules/Regs aren't complicated, just outdated.

I saw that too.  I think that is silly.  However, I also think the rules/regs are complicated--when I try to figure out the less typical registration options, my eyes glaze over.  I recently suggested the regs be revised to lose some of the legalese feel.  I don't think we need a set in legal-speak and one for "dummies," one down the middle of the road should suffice.

On the issue of the regs not being online, I have today received a copy of the last revised version (November 2002) and will put that set online here.  Charee tells me Vicky has her hands tied with a structural update and no time to get in at the content of the online regs any time soon.  Look for a link from these pages shortly.
