Hey guys, it seems we are finally through with the torrents of spring. Hence, new happier smileys for summer!
I have noticed that there seems to be a problem with posting pictures on your messages, so decided to tip you off to the way to do this.
There are two methods of including photos with your post: 1) upload an attachment; and 2) include the url of your photo in the body of your post.
1) This is simple but the less preferable method for several reasons.
When you use this method, your photo will not be in the body of your post. Your post will have a little paperclip at the bottom indicating the presence of an attachment. The reader can click on the paperclip and a new window will open with the picture.
When you use this method, the file is actually uploaded from your computer to the forum's server space. So while this method allows you to include a picture with your post when you do not have your picture on your own server space, it does take up space and use the resources of the forum. Because of this, there is a fairly conservative limit placed on the file size (because it uses the forum's server space and bandwidth ).
So how do you use this feature? When you are posting a message, there is a space above the post button that says "attach." If you have a picture on your computer to attach, simply hit the "browse" button and use the window that opens to search and select your picture file. There is a size limit to these files of 150 kilobytes. If your file size is bigger than that the file will not be attached. If your photo file is not a .jpg or .gif format, the file will not be attached. Incidentally, you can attach text documents as well (.txt files -- NOT .doc files from Word, or .pdf files, or anything else).
2) Method two is preferable because:
It does not use up our server space or bandwidth; Your file can be any file size (for reasons of maintaining the format of the forum in everyone's browsers I would advise not letting the "physical" dimensions of the photo exceed 500 pixels or so in width. ) Your photo will appear in the body of your post
Here is how to include your photo:
To use this method your photo must already be on server space and thus have it's own URL address (ie, "http://www.yourdomain.com/images/myhorse.jpg"). ** *You can check the location of your file by typing what you believe to be the address in your browser; if your photo shows up all alone on a page with a white background, you have the address right.***
When you are filling in the "Message" area of your post, click your cursor in the area of your message where you want the photo to appear. Now go up to the "Add YABBC tags" and click the "insert image" block (Can't find it? second row, fourth block from the left, looks like a landscape, when you hover your cursor over it it says "insert image").
The following tags will appear in your message:
[img][/img]
Now, put your cursor in between those tags and enter the address of your picture. You must include the full address with the "http://" at the beginning (see the sample above).
Finish your message and hit preview. If your photo appears in the message, you are all set. If all you see is a white box with a red square in it, check the correctness of your address.
And THAT is all there is to it!
