Does anyone have experience with Predicta-Foal test strips and their accuracy with maidens? Mare is at 345 days and showing all behavioral and outward signs of nearing parturition, but strips still only show one and 1/2 boxes turning color, out of five possible, meaning test again in 24 hours or so. How reliable are these tests with maidens, given they can prepare rapidly and at times don't change milk consistency until foaling or just after? Any advice appreciated..

Lara, I used them last year on my 16 yo maiden. She showed just a couple of squares for awhile. Then one day she was so restless, doing laps around her paddock, I tested that night and got 5 squares! Set up camp in the barn and her colt was born that night! I guess the strips just confirmed what I saw and as I was a rookie Mom I appreciated the additional confirmation.
I'll use them again this year but she has had issues this pregnancy and is on Regumate so it may not be accurate, we'll see. I'm hoping she does the same restless thing, then I'll know.

Lara-I've been using them for four years now--I've never gotten a false negative--I have a false positive--but the only maidens who have fooled me are the ones I didn't test because they didn't show any pending signs of parturition and went fairly early.
I swear by them--but have gotten some experience about how to judge them most effectively--so give me a call if you want to talk more about them
