My grey mare has a tumor just above her anus that has just come up (she is coming 10). I was planning on breeding her this season, will this affect her? I know the more you poke and prod these things, the "angrier" they get. What a rough year this has been. Thanks for the help!

Ah, the joys of grey horses. Benign melanomas under the tail and sometimes the udder/sheath area are quite common in grey horses and almost unheard-of in other colors. The good news is they are typically non-invasive, not painful, and non-cancerous. If the lump gets inflamed, grows rapidly, or many more pop up in a short amount of time, you should consider a trip to your nearest equine hospital for biopsy. However, you should still talk to your vet. And more good news - you should be able to go ahead with your breeding plans. Best wishes.
