I LOVE Trakehners!
|
CONGRATULATIONS to Erhard and the Westfalian Trakehner team for putting on such a super stallion show on Saturday.
Over 60 Trakehner stallions drew specatators who travelled for hours to see them - including all the way from Salzburg and the UK - and it was a brilliant show - especially to see so many under saddle was just great. From last year's grading, we saw Elfengeist, Hibiskus, Interconti, Lessen and Patmos and so many from the previous year - Axis, Bel Espace Go, Cadeau, Checkpoint, Donaufischer, Hoftanzer, In petto, K2, Thalys, Insterburg, Shooting Star and Dios von der Heide.
Favourites are of course, totally personal, but mine were (in no particular order) - Axis (very relaxed and athletic - mkes it look easy), Cadeau (lovely mover and great presence), Hoftanzer (still babyish, but it's all there), Thalys (some excpetional loose rein work - for a 4 year old in front of so many people), Biotop (wow!), Kapriolan (very correct), Hofrat (tall, dark, flashy mover), Long Deal (for my money the best jumper of the day), Herzruf (lovely horse - and I heard some very intersting comments about how he was a few years ago), Van Deyk (looked more like a 12 year old than a 19 year old - still good in the highest movements), Schonglanz (very flowing) and Solero (i thought a lot better in the canter pirouettes than last time i saw him). If you had the right type of mare for an anglo arab, Askar AA was also very nice as was Stravinsky xx (I don't so I didn't look very much!). But overall the quality was very high and there were A LOT of great stallions - just too many to type out! It's also great to see so many young Trakehner stallions getting the right start in life with some really good riders
I'm going to a Hanoverian stallion show next weekend - am hoping that Latimer (who was also very impressive at the Oldenburg Hengsttage last November), Buddenbrock or Connery might be there!
But it was a wonderful show, Erhard - you should be very proud to have organised it!

I liked Pretty Dancer also - thought the walk was a bit choppy - but the front legs were very expressive, particularly in the canter - he really "jumped" uphill into the canter - if you know what i mean!
Pernambuco was also there, but the only comment I have on my catalogue was that he appeared to be more of a vertical rectangle shape than some (ie not long in the back)...
Still thinking aout what a good show it was!!
