Hello everyone! Im new to the board and the breed! I was just wondering, one horse I am looking at right now and am very interested in is a Trakehner by Hadrian out of an Impressionist mare, and Im just wondering if there was any way to get him registered now, even though hes almost four? Also he was one of the horses from the Human Society auction in FL so I dont know if getting his mothers exact bloodlines is an option, but if need be Ill try.
Also what is the policy on branding?

I assume that he is a gelding. Do not hold me to the price, but I believe that to register any gelding after the age of 1 year old it is around $200 (if you go to the ATA website there is a break down of the prices). Any purebred horse can be branded with the full antlers (for a fee) and a part bred can be branded with a half antler.
Joe Pimentell owns Impressionist and is pretty good about keeping excellent records of the mares his stallions breed. If you can't get the exact records from the auction/former owner check with him and see if he can help. Didn't think there was an Imp daughter that went through that auction or an Imp grandbaby, but since we are down here in FL it wouldn't totally surprise me. Good luck!

Also, branding is not required, purely optional. Not sure I would want to brand a mature horse. Much easier to do when they are young and easier to handle.
My boy would certainly not forget me getting him branded, so I never pursued it. He was 4 at the time I purchased him.

When I first thought of branding all I could picture was cowboys holding down the calves and leaving the brand on for what seemed like forever. But the way horses are branded is much different. We have had 3 brandings here with no drama whatsoever. Because of our remote location, we have branded horses from yearlings to 9 year olds. We have not done babies, although I know some people do. Our first branding ended up being done at grain time, and we did it right in their stalls. Not one picked their head up out of their bucket! Don't think they were stressed too much! I think my point is that if you have a horse that you would like branded...don't let age stop you.

I've had two branded - Tate at the age of 1 1/2 which was a total non event. And Emma at the age of 3. My VERY opinonated red head "blooded" mare who is every inch of that sterotype was fine until the smoke/singe whatever you want to call it reached her nose THEN she double barreled. But we were already over, and she didn't care from that moment forward (just had to express her displeasure at the smell). If ever there was a horse that would hold a grudge it would be her and she didn't care at all.

I had my PSB mare branded when she was 14 and she didn't seem to mind. I would not hesitate to brand another older horse.
