I love Trakehners!

I think the fees should be set in such a way to reflect what it actually cost to process the application, i.e. man-hours,use of office space, paper, phone calls, postage, etc. with a little bit added for unforseen extras. It does not make any sense to have different fees depending on age, what book, etc.. The only effect of discriminatory pricing is to incentivate certain groups to not register. And if Trakehners are not registered as such, they are truly lost to the breed and the association. If they end up being good performers the benefit accrues to whatever other registry they are in.

Not related to registration as much as membership but, I can tell you that, as someone who rarely ever shows, I have a hard time justifying staying an ATA member. If a sliding scale benefited those who showed more and at upper levels, I would drop my membership. There is little benefit of membership to non-showing owners of part-Trakehners as it is. When I bred my two youngsters, I did get them registered and I got one of them approved this summer as I think registration is important but, now that that's done, I will have to think carefully about next year. One of the reasons I don't show is my tight budget and expenses I commit to really have to be justifiable. I love the ATA but I'm a realist. (well, relatively speaking. If I truly a realist I wouldn't have a farm and horses. )
