Start saving your $$. We have probably the most exciting lineup of stallions for the 2011 online SSA in our history. So far we're up to 47 stallions - including 5 "secret stallions" . . . those who've never participated before; some now deceased.
This will be an extraordinary opportunity to re-infuse your breeding program with rare foundation blood. Have to wait until January 15th, but nice eye candy in the meantime!
Secret Stallion #1 - whom we are VERY excited to have in the 2011 SSA: VENEZIANO (Guter Stern - Amagun).
Bred by the legendary Dietrich von Lenski, this shining, black dressage virtuoso sadly was lost due to colic as a 9yo. We are SO grateful to renewed ATA member Siegi Belz Fry for contributing him to the 2011 SSA.

Wasn't planning on breeding this year but with such exciting stallions and a newly approved PSB mare, I might have to rethink that.

As someone that has a 2 yo by this boy I will tell you that not only was customer service from Siegi excellent, I'm THRILLED with this filly. The semen was very very good too post thaw.
Deb - just you wait.... this line up actually gives me goosebumps with some of the boys that we have this year.

I was the high bidder for Veneziano! Yea!!
I saw him around 1997 or so when he was in Virginia and thought he'd be great for the heavier mare I had at that time. But, she had repro problems that couldn't be resolved and I was not able to get a foal from her.
So, now I will be able to breed my Amulette to him! I didn't know there was frozen semen available for him still. I'm really thrilled...although I was not really planning on breeding my mare this year. Too, too, too-o-o-o hard to resist!

Congratulations Jennifer! I have a 2008 filly by him and I was like you... I had no idea that there was still frozen on him until I got the mare in foal to him.
I tried to breed the mare back, but lost her to EPM litteraly one week after inseminating her. Siegi was WONDERFUL to work with and I hope to one day use him again on one of my mares. I love the filly that I have btw.
I think Siegi is pretty close with her stores and doesn't have a huge reserve left so it was very gracious of her to donate to this year's auction. She also only would give semen to approved mares (by her) of KWPN or TK lines...

With my slow internet (and poor bidding strategy) I was outbid the last 60 seconds, but I can say I helped run up the bid and indirectly helped the ATA out! :-)
(I need to find faster internet before next year.)
Congratulations to all!

I'm not positive, but I don't think they are going to post who won the bids.. I have seen/heard that the SSA made around/over $23,000 but don't remember the exact amount off the top of my head.

Please tell me more about Veneziano? Why would he be a good choice for someone with a "heavier" mare? I have a lovely, lovely, lovely, but somewhat heavy Sonset's Sieger X Falke (X Blinker) filly that I would like to breed sometime in the next few years. I like EVERYTHING about her, but wouldn't object to a bit more refinement.

Call Siegi (his former owner and who has all of the frozen on him) and talk to her. I have found her to be very forthcoming and honest about her boy.
I LOVE my V baby (she is 3 this year). She is out of a Carino *E*/T'bred mare who was very typey herself and not very "heavy" - Chloe was a good middle weight mare that was about 16 hh (I lost Chloe to EPM when my filly was 2 months old).
My filly is very close to 16 hh now as a coming 3 yo (she'll be 3 at the end of this month) and is still growing - I expect she'll get to be 16.1 - 2 hh. She is very typey, great conformation, and as she ages her gaits get more expressive and "round" (when she was born she had great movement but more "flat" like a hunter's). Very leggy/modern and very elegant and refined. Coal black. She is very "serene" and not esp spooky - very brave filly, not much flustters her but she is very "aware" of herself and has a great opinion of herself. She is def the type of mare that I need to convince her that doing something is "her idea" and not force her into it - I think that if she and I ever really disagreed with something she would put up a big fight. So I approach training with her as a fun thing to do to spend time with mom, not argue with her. She is the boss in the mare herd - even as a weanling she was like that and would even boss around some of the other mares, she didn't even do the "baby mouth thing" at the older horses as a youngster.
