I love Trakehners!
|
Hello all. I've been a trak owner for many years now, but haven't bred ATA horses since the ATA began considering mare inspections and have basically been "in my own little world" iow not paying much attention to this subject. I have quite a few questions, so here goes.
I would like to breed my registered mare, but am trying to decide whether to have her inspected and whether I should select an ATA stud or a high quality tb (am looking to breed a dressage type horse). In a way I think there are so many anglos in the world that I should go ahead and breed to a trak stallion, but all options are open at this time. I would be breeding for another horse for myself, but probably need to consider that while I'm not planning on selling the baby, it could be an option later on, thus there are registration issues to consider also.
This mare is quite wonderful as a riding partner but has conformation flaws in that she could have a better neck set, and is tied in behind the knees a bit (she is nice but not perfect). Lovely pure gaits, although not overly extravagant and a temperament to die for. Also she is "height challenged" since she stands under 16h. What do you think our chances of passing mare inspection would be? Like I said before, I've been out of all things ATA for a long time, so all of this inspection stuff is new for me. What would I need to prepare myself for if I do decide to go the inspection route? Also, do any of you have your ATA mares inspected and approved for other breeds?
Further on down the line, I'd also like to discuss potential bloodline crosses with this mare. I really value the opinions of those who have "been there". Also, I hope my questions are clear (sorry, but I'm not too swift where computers are concerned) Thanks!

I would present her and then choose the stallion (Trak or TB) that would best compliment your mare. There are a few TB's that are approved to breed to OSB Trak mares and the offspring are OSB eligible and can be branded with the Trak brand! JMHO
