The price would depend upon the quality of the horse.  There a number of importers who have been offering frozen semen for many years now and there are probably enough published stud fees to determine a comparable value.  Any stallion who does not have an excellent competition and/or pregeny record would probably not do well here at all.  For baseline stud fees you could compare two Old. stallions at different stages:

Sandro Hit is sold by Heike Albert/GW Ranch - she sells 3 doses for 3,500.  The same stallion is sold by Judy Yancey - she offers him at 950.00 per dose (on sale  Smiley ).  Sandro is an extremely well known, in demand stallion, and breeders are willing to pay those rates.  If you are very very lucky you could technically get three foals for your 3500.00 - in which case the stud fee was a great bargain!

Both breeders also stand a young stallion - Rosario.  He is priced very reasonably because he is so young - but has wonderful prospects for the future.  His fee is 1,000/3 from Heike and 500.00 per dose from Judy Yancey.

Trakehner semen is currently being imported, but it is normally offered by people breeding Oldenburgs, Hanovarians, etc...
Some fees:
Caprimond          700/dose from Classic Sires (Celle importer)
Donaumonnarch   550/dose from Classic Sires
Hohenstein         750/dose from Classic Sires
Key West           350/dose from Classic Sires
Latimer              600/dose from Classic Sires
Kostolany          1800/3 doses from J. Yancey
Michelangelo       1000/dose Superior Equine Sires
Hibiskus              600/dose Superior Equine Sires
LeDuc                 950/dose Superior Equine Sires

Personally, I would like to pay per dose with a discount if I buy more than one at a time.

As for the USDA approval - ??  I thought that the USDA would approve a US semen collection facility for export - but I'm afraid I've never heard of approval for imported semen - is this new or am I out of the loop?
