I love Trakehners!

Well our first filly of the year has arrived....in a most unusual fashion. No milk testing, no sleeping in the barn, no cameras...she came into our lives with no fanfare last night, but SOOO much heart. Welcome to Ava, beautiful bay filly, born 31 March 2010. Ava is by Baladin d'Oc and out of Fame*, by Hailo! Ava (Bravely Fameous) lost her mother to a horrific colic last Monday. I had previously expressed interest in Fame*, so against all good common sense, when the call came asking if I was interested in buying the little orphan....She handled trailering like a pro, she is drinking well from a dish and we are working on fostering her on with a mare here at the farm so she can grow up with healthy big girl respect for humans and horses. WELCOME AVA, wish us luck! and maybe some sleep too.

Wow, tough start for this little girl, but happy she's found good 'foster parents'. Keep us informed of her progress; fingers crossed for Ava and sending all good wishes she finds a loving surrogate mare.

Good for you! Congrats! Poor little thing!! Would love to see photos too when you have the time although I imagine you are just keeping your head above water at this point with the feedings and the care for the baby.

Oh Gale that is awesome!!!! I swear there is NOTHING like a good broodmare! I don't care who it is - broodies are the best. Give her a big hug and a carrot.
can you share the info about the lactation in the (heaven forbid) event that any of us ever need it?

Ava, our little orphan girl, raised by her foster mom, Aleteur, went to inspection yesterday with her half sibling. For a yearling, she did very well with such a stressful day. The inspector commented on what a big yearling, predicting 17+ for her, loved her feminine head and length of leg, thought she will make a wonderful jumper. (She screams dressage to me, but we shall see.) She is proudly branded and glad to be back on the farm, ready to finish growing up.
