Here are my furry, shedding girls on a bright spring day.
Twister (by Veneziano). The first filly I see from her, hopefully a 2011 model, will be named C Sharp Minor in honor of my mom, reference to a funny Mom story that is notorious around the family. Mom's favorite piano solo piece was Rachmaninoff's Prelude in C Sharp Minor, which begins with three powerful chords - DUM DUM DUM. A few beats of silence, and then it proceeds with a softer countertheme, but those three sharp chords are a recurring motif in the prelude. Mom was at a piano recital, struck the three chords, and totally missed the third one - DUM DUM OOPS! Full fortissimo. Mom stopped right there, in a piano recital, shook her head in exasperation, and exclaimed loudly, "FISH FEATHERS!!!!" (She was raised by her dad the preacher, and swearing by anything that meant anything was a spanking offense. That was drilled hard into her and is still there, even under pressure.) The whole audience cracked up. To this day, I can't hear that prelude without half waiting for the FISH FEATHERS in those few beats of silence following the three chords. Anyway, Twister's first filly for me will be a keeper, will be officially C Sharp Minor, and will go by the barn name of Mom's family nickname, Polly.
And Freedom being pestered to death by my Arab cross colt. He is already gelded last year, so all games are innocent, but this morning, he had picked out Freedom as "his" mare and was driving her nuts. She's very patient with him. She babysat him after he was weaned. Still remember her staring over the fence at Missy and her colt with the most forlorn expression after his birth. She thinks if anybody on the farm has a foal, it should be her.
