Yes, he is Anissa. He's my little buddy! He has a quiet confidence about him that I really like. The world can be falling apart around him and he's like, " Hummm. I think I'll just eat grass!"

My orphan filly is the same way.  And prior to her dam dying she was so NOT like that.  I think that losing their mom makes them grow up faster or something.

Think I posted this on FB, but the 1st photo in profile reminds me of Harry Houdini @ that age. 

What you call his internal calmness/confidence was one of the most notable traits HH demonstrated early, too.  It will serve him VERY well u/s - regardless of the discipline he 'chooses' for his performance career.

He's so funny Kim. I take him out to hand graze on the really tall grass on the way to the paddock. I keep bracing for the leap when the other horses start acting up but at best he'll just lift his head and look at them! He acts like an older gelding that is until his favorite Quarterhorse mare comes around! She's a red head! Wow!

I'm quite sure he'd like to "get Lucky!".  It's funny, many of 'em seem to have a certain color that 'does it' for them.  For dad, it's the greys (and if it's a grey pony . . .fugheddaboutit!")

That sounds just like Harry Houdini's personality.  Old souls.  WONDERFUL to deal with under saddle -you only need to concentrate on the training . . . none of the skittishness that typically accompanies 3-4yo's learing their crafts.
