Registration Question
« on: December 04, 2009, 09:33:18 PM »

If I breed my 'D' papered filly to a TB stallion, who is, well I don't think 'approved' but certainly 'allowed' in the registry, would the offspring be eligible for 'D' papers too?

The stallion is Guaranteed Gold, and his Tannenwold Trakehner filly is, according to the sales page, eligible to move up in the stud book, so can't be 'D' registered, but must be B? Or am I way off base here?

The way I understand it and you might want to check with the ATA on this, is that a filly by a TB or Arabian stallion, out of an OSB Trakehner mare is eligible for the PSB (preliminary stud book) upon satisfactory inspection (there is a minimum of points she has to get, offhand I don't remember what that number is).
To be eligible for the part Trak. registry (D") a horse must have at least 50% Trakehner blood. So breeding a half Trak. mare to a TB stallion would result in a foal not eligible for any of the Trak. registries.
If you have time to kill and want to get a headache, it's all on the ATA website!
Good luck !

I suspected as much. I did read the ATA stuff, but like you said, it gave me a headache Cheesy I conclude the 50% Trakehner means 50% registered-already-as-Trakehner, not 'could be'.

Part-Trakehner to a TB will not give you the percentage of Trakehner blood needed for the D book.

Since my filly was referenced, she is eligible for the PSB because her dam is an OSB Trakehner mare, and she is by a JC stallion.

Nice stallion, by the way. He gives some nice qualities besides color Wink

I have an APHA mare. She's had a foal by Feuertanzer and a colt by Guaranteed Gold and is back in foal to him. The colt was (and still is) exceptional and was sold as a stallion prospect.

The filly by Feuertanzer is really very nice indeed. She may need another year off and I was ruminating the possibilities of breeding her to GG as I like what he produces (and I *adore* this filly. Feuer really stamped her!). But Registration papers would be a problem and I sure would like to stick with just one or two registries LOL

I love the filly you produced Tannenwald. Absolutely lovely and if I could afford her, I'd be proud to own her.
