Tate just got off the trailer at KD Trakehners in Watertown, WI! I sent him over there so he could be started by Silvia Geyer. He will be there through the breeding season more than likely and hopefully we'll get some shows under his belt.

Thanks Kim!!! I didn't sleep well last night I will admit knowing that he was on the roads (I'm sure you can relate LOL). Highly recommend Perry's if anyone is ever shipping horses though. Silvia said he stepped off the trailer like he was walking out of a barn.

I would think that might be a bit of a temperature adjustment for the young man! Glad he arrived safe and sound and make sure to keep us updated on his progress.

Not sure about a temp adjustment... I think Toronto and Watertown are similar (WI might be SLIGHTLY colder but not by much). Even if he was still down in FL before going north... it is just over freezing (33) at the moment and has been in the teens/twenties all week long....

SUPER A client of mine had one of her youngsters w/ Silvia for a while and it went well.
Good luck and definitely keep us updated on Mr. Tates progress.

thanks Bonnie - I've heard only good things about Silvia and I liked the way she rode and handled David's stallions in TN so I'm pretty excited.
They had to unload him about a 1/5 of a mile from the barn and walk him down the lane past all of the mare paddocks (fillies, broodmares, riding mares) - all in the cold and after a long trailer ride. She told me that he just walked alongside her like it was just another day. Such a good boy.

I believe most have seen this on FaceBook, but I'm so over the moon I thought I would post here too.
I went to KD Trakehners this weekend to see Tate and make sure everything is settled with him being up there etc. He got to David's on the Sat prior (after a long trailer ride), had Sun off, was lunged on Monday and was backed on Tues! By the time I got there on Sat he had been rode 3 times and was already off the lunge line and going around the big arena. Granted, we are just working on going forward and being relaxed etc - nothing major yet and of course no trying to collect him etc. Silvia is doing a WONDERFUL job with him and you can tell that he is totally relaxed and happy at the new place and with his new job. Tate was walk/trot and a little canter by the time I saw him and steering was no issue at all as he was changing direction and circles etc. I'm very very happy with the facility and with Tate.
Photo below is from Sat's ride (ride number 4):

LOL - the photos that I took were not the hottest. I manage to always get the photo of the split second of a gait that is the MOST unflattering.. you know when the only foot touching at the canter is the front one, or equally weird moments. Then you add the blurrines or an unfortunate angle (jump half way into the frame covering the horse etc) and well there went more than half of the photos that I took (and I didn't get many). David did snap a few but he hasn't sent them to me yet, and I honestly don't know what all he had. I will share these photos - and really don't be too harsh on me or Tate!!! Same ride.

this was during the cool down

and just so you can see how COLD it was when I was there (and I was told that it was actually pretty mild last weekend... sigh)

I am beyond happy and excited. This is such a cool time in any of the horse's lives... I wish I could just stay up there and watch him "grow up" and start work. LOL. Alas, there is that little thing like WORK that gets in the way...
I hear that he is taking a connection with the bit and is controlled at the canter now. Silvia is really doing a wonderful job and David's place is just jaw dropping....

I so wish!!!!! But alas, no, I'm home that weekend. I'm hoping for pictures or video in the next few weeks instead to tide me over (the marestare thing sounds wonderful... LOL). Silvia said that she isn't lunging him or anything before getting on him now. The ONLY complaint that I have about this whole thing is that he is too far away for me to go up there all the time - this is the time when it is so exciting as things are happening so fast.

At least your guy is closer to you than Benson, Vermont or across the pond!
Glad to hear that Tate's doing well and that you like his new trainer.
