Memeltanz goes under saddle (youtube uploaded)
« on: October 04, 2009, 08:29:18 PM »

I was able to see for the first time my boy go under saddle with only 2 weeks at his trainer. David Beisel is a hunter/jumper trainer near Cincinnati with a beautiful facility on 64 acres. Memeltanz (Tzigane*Pb*/Mixta) aka Fritz was ground driven at home and lounge so he had a good understanding of the next phase. Fritz is by David's words uncomplicated, willing and a "not a big deal" attitude. As always Fritz took my breath away. The photos are not great as my camera did not focus indoors. This week Fritz will go to the outside arena and I hope to get better photos.

David's web site is: www.dbstable.com for more info on him and his stables.

Very exciting! Congrats! He looks so lovely and how nice to work with an easy attitude horse. Your trainer must love him? Can't wait to see the outdoor pics.

Confinement, or restriction of movement of any kind, is contrary to the horse's nature - after all, he is a creature who is used to running free, moving at will and who equates restriction of any kind to danger.

Connie, the expression on his face in photo #1 reminds me SO much of his daddy I laughed out loud.  I've seen that expression countless times.   Grin

Can't wait to see more pix and of course, video.   Kiss

Thank you for your kind remarks. I get a little excited about him.

Today David took him to the outside arena. Starting in the indoor round pen, then walked out with his assoc. trainer on a seasoned horse to a large outdoor with many jumps for Fritz to look at.

First two photos are in the round pen. The second one David is on his cell phone with the assistant trainer to come get him.

Connie, I sent these photos to Helmut, who agreed w/me, saying "it was just like looking at the old man" (esp. his expression when facing the camera)   Kiss

Yes I have some video. I get this camera out maybe once a year. I will try and remember how to play it back and then how to get it up on the Internet Roll Eyes I still don't understand what "facebook" is about!

What a brave boy!

I can't help but say, though, it makes me sad to see a baby in draw reins, especially when they are the only reins.  Soooo much leverage on the mouth can cause pain when the baby makes normal mistakes of balance or being scared.

Off soapbox, now.

The reins are on elastic. In the video I have, now "finalize" on a DVD that I am having trouble uploading to YouTube, you can hear David saying that Fritz is not pulling on the reins at all. He is balanced from back to front. I will try again tomorrow with the upload. Next time out I may bring a tripod to balance the camera. I had to many things in my arms at the time I had the video going.

The side reins are not side reins. They are more of an addition to the martingale. They are not attached to the bit. David does not mess with the mouth or as little as possible. The video from youtube is from the first time I saw him undersaddle (about 2 weeks there) and the first time out to the outside arena. Fritz did very well and I think the excitement at the end was that the saddle pad moved and he did not like the feeling of the mis-aligned saddle. Fritz was re-saddled and went back out with a wonderful ride. I had the camera out, not the video. The next time recording should be better.

Hope this actually loads  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3R_S3c7DnA

If not my youtube name is wwflllc. It is the only video loaded.

Fritz's tail is a little short :-[Lena would be a very good hair dresser if she where humane. She is very good at the trimming a tail Grin

Connie, he looks super!  Not surprised to hear David's comments on balance; it's the most prevalent comment about Taz foals u/s, and Fritz has had it in spades since he hit the ground.  Can't wait to see as he gains confidence/muscling.  He's going to be awesome.  Congratulations!   Cool

Thanks Kim,

I am SO delighted with him and he is getting some looks at David's barn Shocked There have been many comments to me on him. One of David's hired help remarks every time I am there that he "really likes Fritz". It reminds me of the gateman!

Now that I have figured out youtube, I hope to get Lena up with a WOW video.

he looks fabulous, felt a litte drunk after watching the video. Looks like the video (owner) was more frazzled then the horse  Grin

What a beautiful facility and a great way to start the horse right.

Is he one of those born broke babies?
Or did you do a lot of work so he would be comfortable at this stage?

I know the camera was a little excited and hard to control Wink

Fritz has been handled a lot, but nothing more than normal. He learns quickly. When he was first "sacked" out on the ground a couple of years(?) ago he would sack himself out by himself. While walking to the pasture he would go to the empty feed bag tub and grab a bag and fling it all over himself. Grin

He is a gelding and is much more focused on the learning process!! I don't know if we would be at this stage if he was still intact Roll Eyes

Tomorrow I see him again and David said to bring my boots Grin I CANNOT WAIT!!!!!
