Scar tissue
« on: February 02, 2003, 09:10:59 AM »

I have had Tristi at the trainer's for a month now trying to re-break her (she is going on 10, was "green broke" at 4, I acquired her several months ago).  Anyway, she is unable to get into a frame, or bend to the right.  She has scar tissue on her neck, under her jaw (think of where your pulse is in your neck), and scar tissue on her right shoulder.  This is making it difficult to be supple.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to help her?  We have had the chiropractor out, and that helped a little bit, but she gets to a point where she "shuts down" due to the pain.  Is there something that can break up the tissue?  I have never dealt with this.  Her attitude is extremely willing, but her body is unable.  Thanks!

Have you tired the TTOUCH system with her?  I'm not sure she'll ever be quite right, but massages and liniments on the affected spots might help.

Myofascial release may help, here is a link for information on exactly what this is but you can also do a search on the internet for additional infomration  http://www.horseandfarmmagazine.com/MFR.html you might also look into Shock Wave therapy, not sure if it applies to your situation but you could check. I have gotten unbelieveable results using this form of therapy but the areas I have applied it to so far are the back and suspensory. Works on the cellular level to breakdown scar tissue and promote healing.

I'd try a jar of Dynamite's Wound Balm, which has been used to reduce scar tissue and calcification. E-mail me directly if you want.

It sounds like it could be Fibrotic Myopathy; have you vet out and see if it is.
