Loved Maren's report - esp. the "Honorary class" for mares 15yrs and older.  Wonderful seeing some of the 'legends', like E.St. Thirza (what is she, 20+ M?).

Wonderful photos.   Smiley

Yes, Thirza is past her 20th birthday.  In fact, I sent Beate Langels a sympathy e-mail when Thirza lost a foal about 2 years ago.

I was sort of surprised which mare they picked as Grand Champion.  She is the older, heavier version of a Trakehner.
Pr.St. Calistra, by Key West o/o St.Pr.u.Pr.St. Coppelia by E.H. Marduc.  (In the 5-6-year-old class if anyone wants to see her.)

Quite the contrary is true, helloagain.... Don't get mislead by photos, this is a very modern mover, and light on her feet with exceptional "modern" blood and a very refined body.
Key West is 50% AA, and Calistra's dam, famous Coppelia, was the Grand Champion Anglo bred warmblood mare in ALL OF GERMANY,, all breeds, a few years ago, by EH Marduc out of a full TB by Roi Lear xx. Coppelia is also dam of the premium stallion Cousteau, the most refined and long-legged of all Hohenstein sons out there.
And to top it off, Calistra had a foal at her side by Imperio (out of a sire line founded by an AAH and with an Anglo Trakehner dam by Balfour xx). If that is not THE argument to look to new blood coming from the special breeds (xx, ox AA, ShA), then I don't know ..... I was thrilled to see they picked Calistra. But I know her in person, so maybe that helps  Wink And then, I'm a sucker for greys.

Thanks, Maren, for setting me straight.  She looks heavy in the picture, but that must not be her true self.  I really like Key West

Mmmmm . . . yummy!  Of course Maren already knows my favorite Stradivari AA son was Key West!  (M, don't remind me I sold a Stradivari - Sixtus filly 3yrs ago.  That's STILL painful).
