Julia had her much postponed surgery today.  All went well.  The staff is amazed at how angry Allie was at them taking her baby since "they had sedated her".  Guess they don't know Trak moms.  I told them she would hold the grudge through tomorrow at least.  They seem very insulted that she flattens her ears at them....LOL.  Thanks for all the jingles and prayers.

Julia and Allie came home!!
« Reply #29 on: September 16, 2009, 10:23:28 AM »

My grlzz finally got to come home.  It takes about three people to hand walk them currently with Allie so cabin crazy
and babykins just learning what cats, dogs, goat and farm looks like, so having pictures is pretty hard.  I got a few head shots this morning, but can't get them sized for here.  Will keep trying. Thanks for all your thoughts and jingles.  Gale

I saw Gale Monday at an ISR/Oldenburg inspection and saw some adorable pics of Julia at home and doing well!

Gale was also very happy because she had a beautiful Balladin d'Oc colt (out of TB mare) name Blitzen receive premium at that inspection. This is in addition to the top premium she already posted about the week before.  Gale is seeing some excellent success as a breeder and I congratulate her for that!

Gale and I were comparing notes because my yearling filly Scharlotte by Schiffon *Ps* out of Wasilida (Woronow-Donnerhall-Feiner Stern) was at the inspection and received her O crown brand. This is a big deal because this filly was a dummy, spent about 4 weeks in the hospital, including 2 weeks on IV nutrition and IV antibiotics, got an infection in her left foreleg cannon bone growth plate and in the fetlock joint. This caused severe pain so she spent the first 4 months of her life standing only on her right front leg which caused a major deformity despite trying to keep a glue on shoe on her. Scharlotte eventually had a steel plate installed to fuse her left fetlock joint. She is now pain free, runs around like crazy with amazingly normal movement considering how her front legs haven't grown as much as normal and are really crooked (was one of the better moving yearlings at the inspection, but I'm biased), and is a smart, sweet, but opinionated little girl.  Christian Schacht, the inspector from Germany (whose family has raised Trakehners for years), gave us compliments about giving this nice horse a chance and that he looks forward to seeing some beautiful babies from her in the future.

Her nick name is leaping lizard.  Since she was at the vet school and could only be walked in hand, they treated her like a Macey's balloon, taking two on each side of her and two with her dam whenever they walked her.  We've really had to
work on manners since I don't have 8 interns working with me.  She is fun, smart, sensitive, temperamental and OH SO
Opinionated......my heart has been sucked away I am afraid.

That is awesome and she looks wonderful.

Yes, the ones you have to "fight" for tend to "suck your heart away" - and rightly so!  Congratulations!!!

What a lovely filly!  Congratulations on getting her through everything and home.  And it is so true--the ones that we've worried over and fought to keep going are the ones that capture our hearts.

I am so pleased to report that Julia (Bon Appetit) got wonderful comments on her movement, feminine head and nice straight topline at yesterday's Oldenburg inspection.  She is now a proper two year old filly wearing her brand  Grin Grin.  For those new people, Julia was born prematurely to my heart mare, Aletuer and spent the first three months of her life at Virginia Tech from complications with her unossified bones.  Her sire is an Anglo-Arab who unfortunately passed away last year.  This was always an amazing filly in my heart and mind.  Glad she got some recognition after her amazing fight to live.

Congratulations!  Great continuation of this courageous filly's story.  What are your future plans for her?
