Boo is a Trakehner/Hanoverian cross and he was born July 7. I could not be happier with him! He is 2 hrs old in the picture with his Mom (the Tk), the second picture, he is 2 days old.

Yep, he is one solid little pumpkin! His mother is a big horse too. I tried to be careful picking a sire to try and lighten her up a bit.
Is he too fat though?
(Normally this is a really loaded question, but in this case I really do want an honest answer  Wink )

He looks fit, but it is hard to judge from the picture. He looks to have his baby coat still. They run around so much they should keep themselves in shape. I have always wanted to see some rib on them, not a lot. Babies do not need to heavy. Overfeeding will give you more troubles down the road. Mommy and pasture is enough for this boy, unless your vet thinks otherwise Wink

I really like this little "big" boy!  He is so dang cute!!!!  I agree that he is prob about right - erring slightly on the heavier side, but he is so "solid" with big chest and legs that he looks like my foals that are out of mares that produce good milk and big foals.  Don't think you need any supplements LOL!

Boo went to his first show, CWHBA, and made me proud! More with his behaviour then anything else. His Mom was awesome too (for a "Hot" Trak  Roll Eyes she was sleeping in the ring).

Thank-you both. I kiss him many times a days, poor thing. He is jealous like his mother as I am not allowed to pay attention to anyone else when he is around. I always thought my mare was just corky in her jealous tendencies. Since I found this site, there have been many behaviors of hers that I learned are "normal". I am so glad he is like his mother, I think I would be bored with a horse with less personality.

P.S. Why did people stop updating their foal pictures? I really enjoy watching these little ones growing up. It makes for a nice start to the morning to see these little ones!

Congrats stoicfish! He is a handsome fellow and has such a nice confident eye.

What are his bloodlines? The allbreedpedigree link doesn't work at this time.

Mom looks nice and she obviously makes nice babies - how about trying a Trakehner stallion at some point with her to keep it all in the family?

Thank-you.
I am not a breeder, his mother is my special girl and I really debated breeding her with so many wonderful horses out there already. But I thought I would try it once. I was a nervous wreck for 11 months. I don't think I could do it agian  Wink
I would have loved to use a Trak stallion but I wanted the stallion to be close, because it was her and my first time. There are none that I knew of that were close by.  Oddly enough the stallion is linebreed to a Trak (Abglanz) the most (7 times)and has 2 other Traks in his pedigree.

I can certainly understand the benefits of breeding to a stallion close-by that you know. And compared to the more common trend of breeding to the latest hot, over-hyped stallion who the mare owner hasn't met or seen more than a 20 second you-tube video of, I applaud you!

Love the stallion's bloodlines. The breeder of my first Hanoverian mare (Wilhelm Klausing) was the stallion raiser of Le Primeur so I've followed him. Great all around horse.  Good to hear that Spruce Meadows was so mare owner friendly since one always wonders about mega-outfits like that.

Not odd at all! Grin  Trakehners are well-represented in many, many bloodlines of the warmblood registries.  (They just don't like to be reminded.)

Odd as in out of all the stallions I looked at in person, I choose the one with the most Trak in it. I think subconciously I was trying to pick a Trak stallion. Your right about others using Traks....Abglanz put the "A" in Argentinus  Smiley

Blue for Boo . . . Hooray!!!  Love, love, LOVE his face!! Kiss

If you're only going to breed her once, you did a very good job.  Enjoy him!

He's gorgeous! Just wanna give him a hug and a kiss on his nose. Congrats! hope you post more pics as he grows up! What plans do you have for him?

I told Boo all the nice things that were said - so he bit me....anyone want a colt  Wink
I hope we can event when he grows up.
Foals are really amazing. I have had horses for 30 years but the youngest were yearlings. It is really special to see it all from the beginning. But honestly, I didn't know how bad and strong willed the little ones can be. I think having a colt for a first one made it more interesting too, I also think it will make me a much better horseperson. He is not for sale so I don't mind posting the fuglies, which will be coming up soon since it is going to get cold. I will update when he gets his Yak coat on.
And thank-you all very much for the kind words.

Boo dressed up as a grumpy raccoon in a plaid coat for Halloween.
As I was posting about Monty and foal coloring, it got me wondering – what is up with that mask?
He has lost his foal fur already, his socks came in and now this just popped up a week and a half ago. No where else on his body except around his eyes.  DK bay?

Any pics of the 2009 babies before the 2010 get here?
My little guy is a neckless fuzz ball. I will post pictures. He is growing so fast too. He must be close to 14.1 or 2 now. They really are not little for very long.
