I can't believe it! Tanz was "due" (342 days) on June 12. I went out to the paddocks this am to feed and what to my wondering eyes did appear? but a perfect bay colt with a white star on his face nursing. I'm out the door to move horses (she had him in the paddock with Lady and her pony friend) and wait on the vet to come and assess both mom and baby but they both appear to be fine. This mare has never NEVER NEVER gone before 340 days and showed NO signs of foaling last night. I just got home from a trip yesterday afternoon, checked her - she had a 3/4 full udder that was warm and tight. I figured she would go this weekend. No wax, nothing. I was planning on starting to bring her up to the barn starting tonight. This may have been the easiest foal watch ever LOL. I'll take some photos in a bit. Oh - and my birthday is tomorrow! What a great 40th present!!!!

Photos of the little boy. He is by Impressionist and o/o Tanzania *E*. Vet gave him a clean bill of health and he likes to be up eating more than anything else. Born on day 327.

Pictures NOW, please. I remember last year Sara and Ruby had hardly been born when you were snapping away. Tanz is sure a colt-producing mamma. Will you breed her again? Hats off to Imp, the proud Papa.

I see we were posting at the same time. He is beautiful. Tanz did a good job bringing that little fellow into the world all on her own.

Thanks - I'm liking him a lot. But we knew we would get type with his mom and dad. Curious to see what movement will be like. He is so friendly too (also to be expected given who his parents are). What a little trooper.
As for Tanz's plans.. I don't know. This is her 9th foal, she is not a spring chicken and it was not easy to get her preg. This colt coming so early may have been nature's way of saying that is enough. We'll see how it goes the next couple of weeks.

Took some photos of the little man last night when I turned them out. It is amazing how quickly they wrap their little hooves around your fingers isn't it?? I admit I'm totally smitten with him. We are calling him Truman for a barn name, but haven't thought of a "real" name yet - there are several being debated.

I bet he keeps his mom on her toes - I don't see her around anywhere. Truman (I think that name fits him) is unfolding nicely...

Yes Bonnie, he is keeping mom on her toes! LOL. Where I took them is actually part of my yard/barn gate area and is not a true "pasture". The grass is so lush there I was letting Tanz graze a little while he ran around. Tanz was actually standing next to me eating grass (in fact one photo I had to crop the side of her face out of the fame) and keeping a watchful eye on the little stinker. My paddock areas are dry lots or with very little grass so whenever I can get one of them out to this part of the yard they love it!
He was having a good time trying out those long legs - he's starting to get the hang of them. It is always funny watching them go flat out the first few times, he kept getting tangeled up in his legs at first LOL.

And we have a winner! You have dry lots with all the rain. We've had lots of rain too; I'll ship you some grass.

What is wrong with Truman as his official name? I think it is great and fits him well. Nice colt!!! Congrats.

Took a couple of photos of Truman today (btw - I think we are going to register him Truheart). I let him and mom out in the barn yard area to get to the good grass (so I don't have to mow LOL). He thought he was something.

The problem with long legs....

Well if this is to be Tanz's last foal, she sure produced (with Oscar) a handsome colt. It does make me sad to think that she won't have any more babies. That mare line is such a good one.

Thanks, but this was not by Oskar - this one is by Impressionist. But I agree this was a good one. Still haven't made up my mind on the if it is the last one or not... we may do a couple of ETs with her.

Oops, I knew it was Imp's baby. Just so used to typing Oscar when talking about your mares. Happy to hear Tanz might be an ET donor.

He looks like a very handsome fellow, Anissa. I love the 2nd photo of him trying to eat grass.
