My new mare!
« on: April 22, 2009, 01:00:55 AM »

Her information is below and she's currently in foal to his young stallion Zauberruf!  Hopefully in just 7 months I'll have a new baby to raise!

My new girl is Pirouette's Pasha, an 8 year old by Hilton GS, out of Pirouette by Blinker.

Here's a link to Darren's young stud she's in foal to!

Thanks,

Sean

Welcome to the wonderful world of Trakehners!  Grin

Congratulations on your mare and impending foal - how exciting for you!!!

My mom is from St Pete and while it might not be a HUGE horse community, FL is!!  There are several Trakehner breeders in this state wtih at least two of the breeds "major" breeders here (Joe Pimentel who stands the stallions Oskar *Pg*, Impressionisst, and the new stallion Holster as well as Jean Brinkman one of the ATA's founding members and who stands the stallions Hailo *Pg*, Martini, Stiletto, Incantarre, and the new stallion Immenenance).  There are many of us smaller breeders as well.

It has been announced that the annual Convention is in Jacksonville in 2010 at the Equestrian Center (BEAUTIFUL place btw).  You'll have to make plans to go to it!!

Sean, congratulations!

I was with Darren when he bought Zauberruf in Germany and I saw him recently at his place - nice young stallion, and knowing Darren, he will get his shot at a good performance career. He has very interesting bloodlines and I would think is a nice match for the Hilton and especially Blinker lines.

The dam of your mare is also dam of the CTHS approved stallion Paradise DCR by Prinz Habicht, who was approved in early 2009 in Canada. Here is a photo:

Hilton GS stands at Galten Farms in Canada, as you probably know, and is the son of two very successful parents. Sire Bukephalos was a CCI eventer in Germany prior to import to Canada and has a very good record as a sport horse producer in NA, especially for the Hunter ring (e.g. Heinzelmann *Pg*, his approved ATA son, was a leading Hunter for some time, and has sired the outstanding Hunter sire Asher). Hilton's dam Haiti is an ATA Exceptional mare and is also dam of the above mentioned Heinzelmann, as well as the 4th level dressage gelding Haydn (by Apache), and several others. She was by Amiego *Ps*E* and out of the very good German import mare Heimische by the Shagya Arabian Gazal VII. This mare family is a family of show jumpers and eventers, and represented by several approved stallions, e.g. the younger Hidalgo (by EH King Arthur TSF), the FEI show jumper Heimherr (by Carajan), Hänsel (by Merkur), Heidedorn (by Ghazal I) and others.

Blinker as dam sire is interesting because of two things: he was a direct son of the excellent sport horse producer Magnet (by Pregel) and his dam line traces back to the big Bea family (Fürst Dohna Schlobitten) - one of the most proven and versatile sport horse lines of the entire breed. Recently in the spotlight: EH Banditentraum, Baron Verdi (ATA), and Darren's absolutely stunning German Ballzauber, who just passed an exceptional 70 day test in Germany and is in preparation for the Bundeschampionat (eventing) this year.

Is Zauberruf fully approved?  I didn't see him in the ATA list, and I thought Verband approved stallions automatically go on the ATA list.

Congratulations on your new mare.  She sounds lovely.

Yes, he is fully approved, and 30 day tested. The reason he is not on the ATA list is that Darren has not registered him with the ATA.

Maren, thank you so much for all of your information!  It's great to hear about the sporthorse backgrounds in all of my mare's relatives!  I'm hoping to breed beautiful event prospects for Darren to compete in the future!

I am very familiar with Hilton, especially through Heinzelmann who Darren had at his farm while I trained with him, but I knew nothing about Pirouette or the Blinker lines.  It's great to hear so many positive information about them!

Maren, also, do you think that my mare would be a good match for Ballzauber?  He's definitely my first choice for next year if Darren and others agree he would be a good compliment to Pirouette's Pasha.

Thanks again, I really appreciate all the information!

If Zauberruf is only 30 day tested, then he is not "fully approved". He still has to do either the 70 day test or the ATA requirements for full approval in America. He will have lost his liscence at this point until completing those requirements
Correct?

Zauberruf was approved?  I thought he was sold in the riding horse auction and wasn't approved.  I also tried to find him on the Verband site and didn't see him.  But I might be wrong, it was just a quick search.

Zauberruf was sold in the riding horse auction.  He is also approved. http://www.trakehners-international.com/nms08_74.html

Sean, congratulations on your new mare.  You should be excited about your coming foal - Zauberruf is an excellent young stallion w/super basic gaits (easily seen in video link) and wins and placings already in young dressage horse classes as a 3yo.  Performance under saddle matters - and he was proving it at a young age.

Thanks very much for the information everyone!  I am extremely excited for the coming foal!

I was lucky enough to have Brad Kerbs at Darren's when I was there seeing my new mare for the first time and got some great feedback on her and Zauberruf.  His knowledge of the breed is encyclopedic and it was great to talk with him about their confirmation and other attributes.

Can't wait to start seeing people at inspections and the conventions!  You all have beautiful foals on this site, and it's been a great resource for me!

Thanks,

Sean

Suzette, correct. He has done several novice eventrs though this season, so technically is FULLY approved once paper work is filed.

I still don't get it thought .... a 30 day test is worth LESS than a novice event in the US? But maybe that's just me  Roll Eyes

Anissa, the riding horse auctions occasionally also feature approved stallions. Zauberruf was approved at a "special inspection" that you can apply for with the Verband (and pay for handsomely)  Wink and I thin kthe date was a few weeks prior to NMS.

Ballzauber: I will try to post more about him here in a while. I have some new video to share and his 09 foals are hitting the ground now. For a peak of the first two foal crops, see his German website here:

Great, thanks for that link Maren!

Zauberruf also just completed a training level event at the Florida Horse Park with a clean cross country and a clean stadium round!

So M, what exactly does the 30-day test consist of?  Done when most stallions are 3, correct?

I stand corrected then - just asking mainly because when I went to the Verband site and looked under where the licensed stallions were he didn't appear, but I might be misreading (it does happen lol) or it might not be the most current... Good to know.

Also, I misspoke about the Convention in Jacksonville 2010.  The newsletter had that the board had approved the site, but I failed to see the "pending" in front of it all... sigh.  No coffee when I was typing apparently.  So Jacksonville is the "proposed" site I guess and it isn't official?

Just thought I would clear it all up.

Sean - will you be coming to TN for THIS year's convention?  Sounds like it is gong to be a humdinger!

Anissa, the Verband site is misleading in a way as it only lists stallions that are active. There are many more fully approved stallions that are not on that list simply because they do not stand at stud in 09. For a full list, you have to get the stallion books - only these are complete and current, as they are updated every year.

A 30 day test consist of the stallions being evaluated for the following traits: character/temperament, quality of basic gaits (with individual scores for walk, trot and canter), and jumping ability which is assessed both free and under saddle. The stallions are 3 and 4, you cannot enter a 5yr old or older. The "level" at which they ride is the intro level, which in Germany is 1st (there is nothing lower for young horses).

The thing I fail to see is how a Novice Event for a 4yr old can be "worth" more than 30 days of rigorous testing, by judges, the training leader and test riders. Especially since you can stop on xc and have many rails and don't even need a great dressage score. YOu just need to get through. But that is a discussion for a new post  Wink

I am very much hoping to make it to this years convention, I'm getting married this summer and we are planning a delayed honeymoon sometime in the fall, hopefully it can be scheduled around the convention!

If not, I really hope they decide on Jax for the convention in 2010, that would be excellent!

Bhaltair Farm comes from a nickname I was given when I played rugby over in the UK.  I'm of Scottish descent, and Bhaltair is a Scottish boy's name meaning warrior/general of the army.

It's what I was called while I was there, and my fiancee and I couldn't come up with any other name that we liked.  Basically it became our farm name by default!

Sean, are you the rugby-playing bride, or groom-to-be?  I know Sean is used for both, so began to wonder..

Very excited for you.. nice way to start your farm with great blood.

Look forward to meeting you in Nashville, or FL the next year!

Hahaha, I'm a professional rugby playing, pro strongman, 6 ft 350 pound groom to be, there's no mistaking me in person, though I do certainly have a feminine side!

Yep, total agreement here.  But that's why so many ATA people would like to see the performance test standards raised.

It does seem strange that just making it through a novice event would be considered a "performance" test...it's sure not a grueling test that proves much in my opinion, are there changes being considered anytime soon?
