I love Trakehners!
|
You are keeping us busy,Karim...... hard to say, because there more than 400 families, who are active in the breed, but - of course - everybody has his own favourites,by the reasons of some experiences. Out of the group of the families from Trakehnen there are already four, which are my favourites: The black, solid Herbstzeit by Bussard with her family-branches of Herbstgold by Totilas and Herbstblüte by Komet and again her daughter Herzchen by Ginster.Ver yproven bloodline due to their wonderful disposition for riding quality.A big number of high potential competition horses for all sorts especially dressage up to international level puts that family into the top group. They are most times big movers, athletic, have lots of presence and still show til today the influence and attitudes of the foundation mares. And that is one important point what a family really makes a family. Next is Halensee by Hannibal:being the proud owner of Harma by Matador - a fullsister of Hohenstein's dam - I know about the values of that bloodline. She is a real lady, always ready and prepared to show herself,in the middle of the night or late in the evening, and looking at her under the saddle, you will notice everything about a natural talented riding horse - even today in her high age.Same do her daughters - always so kind and willing, powerful, uphill and well balanced - seems to be typical for the whole bloodline, because owners of these families' members told me the same. Next is Handschelle by Polarstern:very heavy bloodline, very rare and narrow, but producing a big number of high talented and successful sport horses.Best example is Habicht. With TB-or arabian genes they produce the best.Very powerful, athletic horses, strong minded but ready and willing to do everything. And then Isola Longa by Tyrann:Her family already in Trakehnen was one of the best producers of competition horses.Members are very noble and elegant, long lines and big parts in their bodies, lot of positive influence by the TB,elastic movers like pumas.Always so kind and easy and willing to work, best example is Ibikus, one of our great foundation sires. From the east prussian ones Schwarze schwalbe with her granddaughter Schwalbenburg is very close to me.Schwalbenburg had four graded sons, among them the Grand-Prix-Stars Schwadroneur and Showmaster. Her bloodline is blooming. And then - excuse me - a very young one:the family of Arcticonius xx,and I was so lucky and still so happy to keep her daughter and Arogno's fullsister Arktis. She is a lady and part of my life.Nearly every foal was special, but the most important thing, they all were the easiest to work with, wonderful feeling under the saddle, always elastic and comfortable. And same important her personality:a lady with wonderful manners, high intelligence and a strong character.By the way - Kavaliers's sire Amatcho is a son of her fullsister Anna Karenina.Sorry for my love letter to her..... And there are much more favourites among all these families, the best way to know them,is keeping and breeding with members of them but who will be able to do that.

Well, Erhard picked good ones! I have Handschelle in my top 3 list too! From the main stud, on my list, I'd also have Tapete by Pythagoras, because my personal relations to horses of that family have been most rewarding and great! Especially the branch via Traviata by Impuls is my absolute favorite. I like the sensitivity these horses have, plus their amazing beauty and characters. They are also highly athletic and can do both dressage and jumping, which to me, is very important.
Donna by Cancara is another one. First of all, a highly successful line in all sports, secondly, I just really admired their minds. Very willing, giving 110% for the rider. And the family is huge. So many branches and subfamilies, and a family that really helped to spread the word that Trakehners are exceptional riding horses. Also a family that in our modern times has significant influence on the Hannovarian breed as well. I know my top 3 is picked, but I hate to leave this without mentioning Kassette by Harun al Raschid. A family w/o our modern breed as it is today would never have existed.
From the private breeds: Family of Sophie. Pretty small compared to others, and maybe it's my personal relationship to a descendant from that line, but you in the ATA had Samurai II, and we, today, have Summertime, one of my current most favorite Trakehners in Germany. I like this line because my former eventer is out of it, and because he was the most willing horse I have ever ridden. My life insurance at xc. I would clone him if I could! The line has produced a number of excellent sport horses and I hope it has a bright future ahead. Also the family of Bea. Outstanding horses for both dressage and jumpers, excellent powerful movement combined with Trakehner beauty. My old "love" Banditentraum is out of that line, as well as many others, including 2 mares we own now. Last but not least, the Arbeitgeberin family. Not because I own a horse out of that family, but because of Abisko, Abdullah, Apache, Aida, Archibald, Amiego.....just a most athletic, and especially jumpers, family. This family did a great job to promote the breed at international level.
Well, folks, let's hear your picks too!!! This is not a Erhard/Maren forum

Christina, today I sent you some photos by her and her impressive daughter Hagia Sophia too.Hope it worked and you are able to open them. Harma is a real special mare and very close to my heart. She is tall (16.3),has long frame and important riding points.I admire her long, comfortable saddle position. But the most important:her outstanding gaits, such powerful and in the same way elastic trot, good, relaxed and rhythmic walk. She is showing her movements till today in her age of 22 and looks like a young girl. She is the dam of several talented and starting competition horse,of the stallion Horizon, and two premium daughters.Should become Elite this year. Together with her fullsisters she represents one of our most proven and high quality families: Hama (supreme champion of many shows, dam of Hamlet Go,granddam of premium stallion Harlem GO),Helena (dam of elite-stallion Hohenstein) and Havel, whose bloodline Dr.Holekamp - I think -is keeping with lots of successful results in breeeding and competion.

True! Havel was a very important mare in the ATA, she sadly died late last year. She produced a number of excellent competition horses for the Holekamps and most importantly, her line has a string foundation in that farm now. I think they already have a thrid generation after her on the ground, butt he detailes have to be explained by Tim. One of the most impressive offspring is Herz Prinz (Hank), by Prinz Sokrates. He and his young Canadian rider Andrina Calder are winning at CIC** level--that girl is only14!! I had the pleasure of riding Hank, and whilehe was a bit too small for me (I'm very tall), I loved his energy and attitude. Probably is a good model of that line!

I know you didn't ask me, but we all have our favorites...I have to mention Kassette, the mare family that gave us beautiful Kaspariet (and his ggrandson, Klassic Hour).
Maren wrote a very educational article about this mare family in the ATA magazine a while back. Because my horses are in this family, I was really happy to have that information. Thanks, Maren.
