On April 13, Pr St Viva Vanessa presented us with our first Schiffon *Ps* foal of the year, missing being an Easter baby by just 3 hours.
This adorable colt is named "Velluto", which means Velvet in Italian (we are naming all of our Trak babies by Schiffon with names of fashion designers or fabrics in honor of dad). We will call the colt Louie.
Mom and baby are doing well. The pic is from 12 hours of age.

Thanks for all of the kind words! Today was the first day I got to really see Louie move since we had 2 days straight of solid rain and I was very happy with what I saw. I'll be taking some video and attempting my first youtube posting next week.
Pr St Viva Vanessa is a fabulous mare, extremely sweet, confident, easy to ride, and a great mover. I bought her at Neumuenster in Oct 2007 in foal to King Arthur. Her bloodlines by stallion are Ursprung (by Cornus)-Wakond (by Arogno)- Ibikus-Impuls. Her pedigree is in allbreedpedigree. Ursprung is an underappreciated stallion who was competed thru I-1 (maybe a bit of GP) by Dorothee Schneider, whose family is the breeder of my mare and a number of the horses in her damline. My mare is the granddaughter of SPS & Pr St & E St Vanessa, the dam of EH Van Dyek and considering the quality of the 2 foals she's produced, I think her name may be accurate in that Vanessa lives on in her.

Congrats Lea Ann, he looks so leggy and like he will be a big guy. Mom even looks like Van Deyk, funny how that line is so potent (and thank God for that).
How many other Schiffon foals are coming this year? Anymore for you?
How is the breeding coming for this year? Kiss the girls for me!

We are thrilled with our outing last week to Dressage at Devon. This was the first time showing there but it was very enjoyable, the barn newly renovated (but small), and not near as chaotic as I had heard it might be. Velluto and Viva Vanessa were very well behaved during the whole thing despite being cramped in a 9 x 10 stall and the only exercise being walking on pavement around the barns.
Velluto was 6th (tied for 5th, actually) in the 2009 colts and geldings class with a 79.1%. There were 22 entries shown, all breeds.
Then to cap off the week, Velluto won the Trakehner class on Thursday with a 78.5%! We actually won chunk of prize money, provided by Angel Oaks Enterprises, Inc of Athens GA, which was greatly appreciated.
