Herzmond Update - Manny Arrived in Idaho
« on: February 15, 2009, 07:50:17 PM »

Like all our foals, Manny was started last year as a 3yo & did his first several months in dressge, then a few months w/a hunter trainer.  He definitely preferred jumping, but needed time to mature mentally, so I brought him home for a year.

Two weeks ago, we moved him to Stuart Black's barn http://www.horsesdaily.com/news/eventing/2006/04-15-forks_black.html and his progress is unbelievable!

Stuart loves him - esp. his tremendous power over fences and xc obstacles.  A YR was in this weekend to try him, so he may be debuting in the CA area this spring.  Stay tuned.  Meanwhile, some photos.

Looking good!

Those gymnastics look a little daunting.  (Can you tell I don't do that stuff?)

It took me a while to figure out what the HECK he was doing in the last few photos... I kept thinking "is he jumping the hand rail?" "What IS that?" etc... not used to seeing the steps inside an arena!  LOL

He looks happy with his job!  Good Luck Kim.

Didn't realize until you said this there is an optical illusion.  Aren't the indoor steps strange?  Apparently the 'upper' arena was the original one; new owners built a new barn & arena about 5' lower.  There are 3 ways to access the upper arena:
1. a dirt ramp (they drag a wagon loaded w/jumps & standards this way - you can see the wagon to Manny's left)

2. Manny's route

3. a 5' drop (wall immeditately to his left, facing the arena)

The wall is in the shadow, unfortunately but if you look @ the wagon on top, you can see where the upper level ends and the drop to the lower arena.  The girl riding Manny has been the top-finishing YR 3yrs in a row @ Rolex, so she definitely knew how to help a baby down these steps - look how far back she's leaning.

Kim, he looks great.  So glad you explained what was going on.  I guess that girl really knows how to ride if she can get a horse to "walk" down the stairs.  Shocked

Actually, they're sort of "jumping" down the stairs.  (Which is even scarier!)

Thanks, everyone.  I'm so proud of him - think the first one you've bred always holds a special place in your heart.

Hey Stace, remember how much we struggeled w/decision to geld these boys?  It's likely Fairwind wouldn't already be knocking off clincians socks or Manny be focusing this much on his work if they still had to worry about girls, too!   Roll Eyes

Well, it's confirmed.  Manny has been leased to Sara Mittleider http://www.saramittleider.com/SARA/.  He leaves for Kuna, ID tomorrow and will do his first event mid-April @ Twin Rivers in California.

Kim, that is great news that someone of her caliber wants to ride and show Manny.  I bet though It was with a tear in your eye that you signed the contract to let someone else be responsible for your "baby."

If you only knew!   My husband's going to be there w/me when Manny's picked up - he's afraid otherwise I'll be hanging onto the bumper of the transport and won't let go until it stops in Kuna, Idaho!   Cry

It's a great opportunity for Manny -and Trakehners in general - but he's been my love since he hit the ground.

Congrats Kim!  What a super opportunity for all of you.  Manny will be a shining star!

It is funny to think how we struggle to geld them and then they go on to be rock stars and have wonderful lives - no looking back there.

Hugs,

Stacey

Manny made it to Sara's Friday evening.  After a day's rest, she hacked him lightly today.  They'll start training in earnest tomorrow.  First show is planned for mid-April in California.  More as that date nears.
