Saw this on ewarmbloods... Apparently Pandorie (Prelude's dam) is at this rescue and looking for a home. So sad. The last post on ewarmbloods looked like someone was trying to get her, but thought I would put the word out here too just in case. Not sure if anyone has contacted either Prelude's breeder or his current owner, and not sure if either one can take her in, but they might know someone who could give her a good home...

Poor girl, she looks a little worse for wear. I hope someone can take her.

I think Shawnda and Karen Stopek (Prelude's owner) have been in contact and are trying to work out something... I hope the old girl can find a good home too. I find it very sad when I see old broodies that have given so much over the years that are in this perdiciment (of any breed). And, I thought the same thing Joy that she looked a little worse for the wear bless her heart. Maybe it is just a really bad photo.

Very sadly it is how some are treated. USUALLY it is, the mare is getting older, they get sent to a new owner (for a pasture pet, a babysitter, a couple of last foals whatever), and then starts the slippery slope down. Someone falls on hard times.... whatever. This is why my old folks don't leave my property - I will euth them before they go to someone unless it is the one friend I can trust that lives close by and I can check on them anytime I want. Luckily I haven't had to make that hard choice.

Here's a link to a much nicer photo of Pandorie. http://www.americantrakehner.com/3stirrups/pandorie.htm If I recall she had Graditz twins a few years back. I've always kind of wondered how they came along. I hope someone is able to take her on, she's a grand old lady. Aside from Prelude she had another son Passport that was approved witht he CTHS and the CSHA.

Is she at a rescue or is she owned by someone ? I know she was for sale about a year or two ago. Also, it seems like they are trying to put together a transport plan on e-warmbloods for this mare, I am located in Washington State, approximately one and a half hours south of the B.C.border. I could foster her for a while, if that would help.

I think she is at a rescue from what it looks like on the site linked on ewarmbloods. I think it is wonderful how our community will pull together to help this old gal out (or any of our horses), it speaks volumes about the type of people most Trakehner breeders/owners are!

The rescue states that the "other horses" are not at the rescue, but that anyone interested should directly contact the horse's owners. The more I think about this, the more I think she just is past breeding age, and they want to place her. Going through a horse rescue gives them more visibility.
Times are tough, and people can't afford to feed as many horses. Kudos to those who are willing to place through an adoption agency rather than send them to auction.
