Cate, Burnus carries the name designation "AAH" for AnglArabian Halfblood. His sire was the pure Shagya Arabian Lapis by 561 SIGLAVY II-22. His dam 68 Fenek V was the daughter of Fenek V, a stallion that originated from a mix of an Arabian stallion with a Hungarian Kisber Felver. That breed's history is interesting:
The Kisber Felver breed was developed at the former Kisber Stud in Hungary. The stud farm was founded in 1853 and was developed primarily for the breeding of TBs. The stud produced quite some exceptional race horses, e.g. the Epson Derby winner Kisber, or the World Record holding mare Kincsem, who was unbeaten in 54 races. Sidelined from the TB program, the stud developed an exceptional half-bred sport horse that was high in TB inout, but carried Hungarian local breeds as well. The Kisber Felver was born. It is considered an "Anglo" breed and with much political controvercy, was finally accepted by the Trakehner Verband as an official "refinement" breed and hence allowed into the stud book. Burnus' approved was a HUGE issue back then. He was not "pure". However, people like Dr. Schilke stood up for him - and thankfully so. Without Burnus and his son Habicht, the breed would not be where it is.
The Kisber is much like the Selle Francais or Anglo Arabian, and actually also looks a lot like them in conformation and type. Highly athletic, these horses usually excel in show jumping and eventing.

Angloarabians are fully accepted and once presented for approval and performance tested (yes, that again ... ), they will be approved. Prominent examples: Matcho AA, Upan la Jarthe AA, Askar AA, Hamit AA, Inschallah AA and many many others.

Thanks, M. That is SO weird - I swear a prominent "ATA Elder" told me Anglo Arabs were not accepted and we got into a heated debate about this (which made NO sense to me).
Can't tell you have glad I am to know they were wrong!

I use an AA (Alexanderschante) here in NZ which went through classification, last time the Verband was over. But I like my Traks with a good splash of Arabian blood.
