And what horses are coming? (if you are bringing any).
I know some of y'all are coming, but was wondering if there was going to be anyone else there for the day/part of the weekend etc.
Mom and I are flying in on Wed and Joe is coming with us. (of course we aren't bringing horses LOL).
Should be lots of fun and look forward to seeing all of y'all there.

Lara has a colt that is getting voluntary marks right? Or am I thinking wrong?
And I should have said, our plane lands on Wed - Joe will be at the hotel Wed, mom and I are spending some mother/daughter time exploring the wine country on Wed so we'll be in sometime Thurs am/noonish.

Yes, Lara's Michaelangelo colt will be there - for the clinic portion I believe. Soliel will also be in the mare show for Lara's breeding program.
Enjoy the wine country. We get in too late to do any serious sight seeing. My barn manager, Paulina, will be coming with me as well.

I hope to enjoy the wine country (and points around there) but they are saying fire/rolling black outs??? Ok, so who lives out there and what is it REALLY like? (right now I mean - not the general shake and bake scenerio).
And mom and I are using this not just as the Convention, but also as a true holiday. We NEVER get to CA - much less southern CA so we want to do the dorky tourst stuff as well as the Convention. (Hollywood sign, Grumann's theater, Rodeo Drive, etc LOL). Anyone one want to chip in on the itinerry of what we can see Wed and Sun?? We have a car. Would like to see the wine country and Ventura beach maybe? Drive north along the coast a little ways? (the west coast beach line fascinates me as does the NE being from flat FL).

So Heather, is it a surprise who you are bringing? They coming for the show or the inspection?
Frankly, this is the first Convention in 3 years that I don't have to worry about a horse (or two or three) and am kind of happy to be able to sit back and relax and enjoy the show LOL.

Fire Updates:
I live about 25 min from LAEC in the Beverly Hills hills about 1 mile South of Mulholland Drive, which is on the ridge of the Santa Monica Mountains. Friday was ok, Saturday and yesterday were horrible with smoke and ash everywhere. I drove over to LAEC yesterday to check out air quality etc, and stayed in the car, no need to check when you can't even see the next two houses down the road.
Downtown looked like this yesterday:

Last night it finally cooled off a bit, and we got some less Santa Ana winds, so the fires are contained and the air is starting to clear out. Today is MUCH better, by wed, you won't smell a thing.
LAEC had a huge Hunter Show yesterday and none of them were even intimidated - I think for the sake of my horse's lungs I would have quit, but they did show up in bundles and competed. None of the area around Griffith Park/LAEC or the Valley are touched by fires etc.
Kim, Room and Harry even lived well off the wind, the Santa Ana's pushed it all into West LA and the Ocean basin in Santa Monica, so they probably didn't even smell it.
Anissa, I can give you and your mom easy driving instructions for a grand LA Tour if you want the tourist stuff, but Santa Barbara Wine Country is probably a real stretch - most of Montecino is burned. A good substitute is Temecula Wine Country, about 2 hours South/East of LA and in the desert. Plan a day for the LA city tour - plan for the wine after the meeting. Email me if you want some guidance, I know LA better than most natives

Thanks Maren - may take you up on the itenerary, we'll see how it plays out. We have a full day on Sun (our plane leaves at midnight so we plan on having a real "LA day" that day LOL). We had orig made plans to run up to Sharri's place Wed but don't think it is going to happen now - the orig plan was go up there spend a few hours, go back to the wine country, spend the night and sightsee there for just a couple of hours before getting to LAEC.
What is it like around Ventura? or over on that coast? Maybe we can still head over there for the half day or something?? Malibu?? Not sure what is worth seeing or not frankly... sigh
The photo is just creepy though. My office staff thinks I'm nuts LOL.
Heather - good for you! How exciting!! Patricia... I thought you were coming??? WAHHHH was looking forward to it!

Hello, all. I am coming to the convention from northern Santa Barbara County, in the heart of wine country. I have three trak mares, one a Tarim-Hamelschenburg mare Hurde (now 29) whom I bred to a TB stallion (Snow Chief, winner of the '86 Preakness and CA horse of the year) to get an event horse. The mare from that cross, Haviland (now 6), has a lovely just weaned filly by Windfall. Alas, I can't bring horses to the convention, but I will bring photos.
The Santa Barbara County wine country is beautiful and I would gladly help out with an itinerary of the best places to visit. It's only 2.5 hours from LA and a lovely drive up the coast, usually with minimal traffic. The SB fire is now well under control and up north of Montecito where I live there is no evidence of smoke except at sunset when there is a band of color wouth of us out in the direction of the ocean. I rode today and it was fine. Feel free to be in touch via my cell 805-896-4617 for more information about possible tours in this area. I look forward to meeting people from the list in LA.

Oh Lindsey that is GOOD news! So is it worth a trip up that way? Or are we going to be looking at a lot of burned vineyards?
I'm writing your phone number down and might call you when we get out that way if you don't mind - if not it will be great to meet you in CA.
(would love to see that 6 yo mare and her foal - your old girl sounds pretty special)

Heather, best of luck w/your Kosto colt. Can't wait to see him.
P, you will be missed (Jim Rushing, too). Rats!
Stacey, Lara and I are doing a road-trip (Maren, also if duties @ the LAEC permit time) to see YOUR Rom and Harry Houdini at Spirit Equestrian Center (Karim and Kim Turner have horses there, too - a virtual Trakehner Row!! Want to come see your boy?
Lindsey, I cannot WAIT to see your photos - esp. of Hurde. Her sire, Tarim was a full brother to my stallion's dam, Tekoa. So, if you want to road trip as well, you can meet Harry Houdini, a "cousin" of Haviland's!

To "acottongim" - yes it is definitely worth a trip up to SB county. None of the vineyards are burned - a few low-lying ones got nipped in some early frost, but there have been no fires in the vineyards. In fact many are in full fall color. Feel free to give me a ring and I can give you details.
to "TwinGates," can't wait to hear more about your Haviland relative! Sounds as if I should get the photographic pedigree of Hurde off the tackroom wall and bring that as well - it's such fun to see photos of all the horses in these wonderful lines. Where is the Harry Houdini barn?
How will I find everyone when I don't know your real names??? Oh well, I'll have my name tag on so I'm counting on you to introduce yourselves!
Maybe there's a key to list members somewhere, but I'm new to this so don't know about that.
See you soon,
Lindsey

Kim,
Will you be attending the membership meeting on Saturday morning? Hopefully you can make it!
Lindsey,
Not sure if you'll remember me but I sent you the pictures of your mare! It really is a great group of nice people, so I don't think you'll have a problem meeting everyone.

I'm getting very excited about meeting you all.
Heather, of course I remember you, and I cherish those photos you sent me from Haviland's mare inspection in Nipomo three years ago.
Anissa, thanks for clueing me in about your name - I look forward to your call tomorrow and to talking about your excursion while in CA.
Twingates, Harry is LOVELY! And yes, I recognize that neck. It will be fun to compare our horses.
Stacey - can't wait to hear about your Windfall son.

Omigoodness, Harry is gorgeous! Even though he's not a mare (obviously!), I'd make room for him in my barn anytime!
