Christmas gifts that help others « on: November 24, 2008, 09:10:27 AM » Hi, Everyone, Ingrid, I hope this is ok to post here.  This is a link where you can buy Christmas gifts of Horse Tales for the Soul -- a series of books of true stories -- nspirational stories, humorous stories, etc., that we all can relate to as horse owners/lovers.  And 20% of the purchase goes to the NARHA or horse rescue that you choose from a list of 83 in the states. If you aren't familiar with NARHA -- it's an organization of therapy centers that use horses as therapy for physically and/or mentally challenged children and adults.  You may not know that riding a horse stimulates the same nerves and muscles used to walk.  At the therapy center here, they have started the therapy with children as young as three weeks.  It's amazing what they can accomplish -- and by using horses.  These kids absolutely love their "partners".  For many, it's the highlight of their lives -- they get to ride and move without wheelchairs or crutches, etc.  The authors of these stories receive nothing for their stories -- their pay all goes to the charities.  I know because I wrote a couple of stories. http://horsetalesforthesoul.com/Partners.htm Thanks for listening. I am not the Grinch.... and because it looks like a pretty good cause, though it is not Trakehner-related, so this is not really the best forum for it. Re: Christmas gifts that help others « Reply #2 on: November 24, 2008, 11:09:18 AM » Thanks, Ingrid, I hadn't thought of it in terms of being Trakehner-related -- duh!!!  But my stories are about Tk's and the horse rescues have rescued some Tk's -- and the therapy center here uses a rescued Tk -- she is one of their favorite horses for the kids because she is so patient and gentle and works so well with the machine they use to lift some of the kids and adults up into the saddle -- so maybe kind of Tk related -- I appreciate it.
