Some interesting bloodlines this yr.  Bummer no photos for Orania's big brother, Officer or Iskander.  Sad

I don't know why I always hit the ? mark key so often - I dint' mean for the Huh guy to show up.  I just always think of NMS as when the holidays are starting and it is just before the convention, thanksgiving, christmas etc....  Grin

BUT that being said... yeah it is going to be a slow Christams for me too ($13,000 in vet bills in June/Jully UGGGGG - and lost a mare anyway, and lost a breeding season on another one).  My Christmas present was Valentine and keeping her alive.

I wanted to add that we now also have all the riding horses online with video of each single one.

And just for the heck of it.... this one:http://www.trakehners-international.com/nms08_70.html

was presented for stallion approval at the Spring Approvals in 2008 and NOT approved. Go figure where the quality level is this year ....  Wink

Do you know what it was they didn't like? He looks pretty great to me, but then, I'm not an inspector.

When they put a mare in the riding horses, does that mean she's not suitable for breeding?  Or does it mean her owner thinks she's good enough to make a name for herself before she goes to the breeding shed?

Absolutely does not mean she's not suitable for breeding - it may mean she's also an outstanding athelte.  Our mare, Pr. St. Schoene Symphonie was an elite riding horse in the 2003 Fruehjarhrskoerung because her breeder, Dr. A Wezel (you may recognize the family name as breeders of Peron) wanted her to have a performance career.  Her inspection scores qualified her for Premium status, but she'd yet to do her MPT.

Maren trained her for her MPT (obviously she did well enough to earn her Premium title), and later qualified her for the Young Horse Riding Championships.  Here's Maren riding her @ Leverkeusen (spring auction where we bought her).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEU7L2lqeGA&feature=related

Her first foal - Sam the Man (the chestnut in photo attached) - was purchased by a German syndicate @ 4 months of age & exported to Germany as a stallion prospect (the first ATA-bred horse to do so) post-weaning.

So that's the long answer to your question.  It obviously depends on the mare in question, but sometimes you can get an absolutely fabulous broodmare who's also a super athlete.

Does anyone else like the riding horse mare, Bossa Nova, as well as I do?  Kim or Patricia, I think she would make an awesome jumper and then there is the breeding.  The Arab in her is just a plus for endurance.  Of course, either one of you could buy her for me.   Grin

Kim, I like Zauberruf too.

I was on one of the stallion owner's web sites.  SO has more than one stallion up for inspection and had videos of each stallion.  Not once did any video show the legs of the stallion.  In my opinion, the video was almost worthless.  You could see how they used their back, but I want to see leg movement too.

Also, German 2-year-olds look so much bigger than our 2-year-olds.

Maren, I didn't want to get personal, but it's Beate Langels.  Here's the web site to her stallions which I know are all good stallions.

Personally, I would never name a horse in a foreign language without asking someone what the name meant....
"Maniac"?

Hee Hee!  Maren caught that, too and informed the Verband office of it's meaning - they were understandably mortified!

Well, I can't believe that nobody reviews the names. I mean, with the Jockey Club, you have to write up a full explanation as to the meaning of anything that is not totally obvious.

I mean, theycould put in something like "Sh*t Head" on the Verband paperwork and nobody would even say, "are you sure?".

I agree--and I've seen people name horses and never have a clue what the name meant.  But Maniac?  Omigosh!  That's a downright scary energy to put on a horse.
