Go The Distance

In Mid May the barn I boarded Karino's Fire at had a new horse come in, and within a short time the horse was sick and what one vet thought was a case of choke turned upto be an odd case of strangles.
Slowly it worked it's way through both sides of the barn. Even though Shad & Derby (both boarded there) didn't get it very bad---we had at home (at the time) prego mare & then later the new filly (Hope), so we certainly didn't want to risk me going down there. The kind loving husband he is...Jim took on caring for both horses and hand grazing them, administering meds etc...then coming home and stripping in the garage, changing clothes & cleaning up...then staying away from Hope. It has been 3 weeks since any symptoms showed on any horse, so I thought it was time to head down and spend some time with the boy. We made sure to clean up super well when we got home. I just cannot believe how much I missed him!!! Hope and the other horses kept me occupied, though Shadrach is one of a kind!!!! Jim said he had not seen Shadrach so happy in all this time, he seemed to soak in all the attention...Jim hand grazed Shadrach & Derby every day, and turned them out in the big arena, though he drew the line at beauty treatments for the horse...have to say I loved running my fingers through that mane and tail again!!!

Thank you Joy, I must be lucky or my love for him is coming through...of all the pictures today, the one Jim took of us in the barn isle snuggling is my favorite! I just felt like "ahh..." good to connect with him again. I have had him since he was weaned off his mama, and have never really been away from him for more than a few days. It was all I could do to stay away from him. Jim would bring him outside and I would drive by in my car in the mornings just to see him. Everytime I'd get tempted to go down there, I'd just think of Hope & Baily's eyes....and imagine them getting sick and that kept me far away from Shadrach...I couldn't bear seeing my herd at home sick, or losing Baily or Hope... do you have any idea how much I love that arthritic old Paint mare...? I'm sure you do...it is just that she was a cast away...and a lot of people wouldn't put much stock in her, though I call her my spirit horse, because just seeing her bright coat and quiet spirit calms me and gives me much happiness & joy.
I love giving my photos away, and wish I could live close enough to all of you to take pictures for you for Christmas!!! ~Blessings to you all~ And if you could all say some prayers for Shadrach & I, that we can really rock it in endurance next season, I'd really appreciate it!!! It was so hard sitting the year out this season.
