I was told yesterday that he had to be euthanized this weekend.  The person that told me is somene that absolutly would know if it was true, but since I haven't seen it posted anywhere (including the ATA site) I'm hoping that this is wrong?

If it isn't I am so so sorry for his loss.  This year has just been hard on our breed - we've lost so many of the great old guys.

He's 32 years old, so you may have heard right.   Sad

I was just looking at his pedigree on the ATA site,  His damline looks like this:

Caterina out of Karina out of Karin.  Huh?  What happened that Caterina wasn't spelled with a K?  Can anyone explain this?  Maren, perhaps?

Godspeed to a Grand old man.  Anissa's right, we've lost too many this year.

Cry  I was hoping that maybe it wasn't true.  I know that he was already "retired" but it doesn't make it any easier when they pass on.  It hit me esp since I just lost his daughter recently.  My condolances to all of "his" people.  God Speed Carino.

No Anissa you are not mistaken. My source is accurate. I did notice that it was not posted anywhere. I can only imagine that Connie is finding this hard.

Her mare Palma Nigra is not in great shape either.

I'm so sorry about your loss too... Cry

Take care,
Patricia

That is just so incrediably sad.  Connie - if you are reading any of this, I am so sorry for you.  Words just really don't express.  Just know that the TK community is thinking about you and shares in your grief.

Connie has not yet published Carino's passing.  I believe she has only notified a few close friends and family.
I saw Carino this spring and he looked great.  I then saw him again in July and he was not doing so well, and I new that it would probably be the last time I saw him.
Carino passed away on Sunday the 12th of Aug.
He had a great life, and Connie can take comfort that he lived a healthy and happy well into his 30's because of the great love she had for him.
My deepest condolances Connie.

I do apologize if I inadvertenly offended Connie or anyone else involved with Carino.  I debated asking anything - and only did so as I was kind of hoping that someone would tell me it was a mistake.  I do feel very sorry for Connie and those connected to the old man, and truly feel for their loss.  I know that she is going through a difficult time and prob doesn't have the strength or the desire to post anything or talk about it (and that is completly understandable).  It is hard no matter when you loose them, but esp so when you have had such a long life and relationship with them.  At 30+ years he is no longer a "horse" but a true member of the family.  My heart just breaks for her.

I saw this posted on the CTHS website last night, so I don't think you've offended anyone Annisa.  Sad to hear but yes, what a great life he has lived.  My heartfelt condolences go out to Connie.

It makes me so sad to think of how many of the older stallions the Trakehner breed has lost this past year.  Cry

I heard the news over last weekend. Being that I was a previous owner of a direct Carino son and living down the road from Rappenhof, it was sad news. But I have to say to live that long at 32yrs is quite impressive. He will be missed!
