The Jumper peeps @ Lamplight must be wondering what the heck is going on w/all the Trakehner stallions jumping at nearly every level @ Equifest I & II :
Congratulations to David Beattie & the entire KD Trakehners team on their Premium stallion, Blitz und Donner's win today in the Low Training Jumpers!
Blitz makes the 4th TK (or part-TK) stallion competing and doing well at AA-rated Equifest I and II.

HIP HIP HOORAY!!!! Was talking to David just before he left for Lamplight and he sounded like he was just going to a "little show" LOL. Love it that not only did his talented stallion do so well at the show, but also that he was/is so confident in his boy!
So Kim..... I go back to - "Apparently, the TKs missed the memo that they can't jump?"

Thanks, Christina! Now that Helmut & Taz are back home, we had some more time to talk and we discovered something so simple, yet so effective: ear plugs (pom poms). Briefly, here's the story:
Helmut noticed last year when putting up hay, the banging of the hay elevator really bothered Taz and his Irish-bred stallion. Both would pace & kick their walls when it was on, then drop their heads and go back to eating hay the second it was off. He filed it away, invested a whopping $4 on ear plugs for Equifest II and said he literally had a different horse.
Normally full of nervous energy prior to a class, Taz quietly stood in the holding area, waiting his turn to go - in fact, several little girls asked if they could "pet him", and proceeded to do so until he had to go jump!
It's so strange that something so simple could make such a difference, but apparently he's extremely sensitivity to noise. Not only was he calm & sweet, but he even used himself better over the fences. So, here are some photos of a "Happy Taz" @ Equifest II.

Thanks, everyone. He obviously loves jumping, but IMO it's his complete confidence and trust in Helmut that's taken him to a whole new level. It's a rare partnership, and we're committed to supporting him as far as he can go.

This isn't a good photo of Taz (taken too late and he blends into the background), but it's a great example of what Patricia talked about in one of her posts re: the distractions in the Grand Prix ring @ Lamplight.
This is the OCImage jump where the panels have images of photographers painted on them. Distracting enough, but next to this, there's an urn atop columns of another jump, then the tents in the background, weeping willows moving in the wind and casting shadows, and while not visible here, fake palm trees in the center of the arena.
It's a gorgeous venue, but definitely gives horses lots to look at!

Thanks, everyone. I'm happy to report that as of this show, Taz's Jumper earnings surpassed the requirements needed to achieve his Performance Bronze designation, and the ATA has informed me he is now TZIGANE *Pb*
