She is a beautiful mare, and your son did a good job with her. Unfortunately, I have macular degeneration and couldn't really read her story although I gathered she was injured but has recovered. I am happy for you and the mare.

Sorry about the text on the video, my husband had a hard time reading it too~~ I'm new at this making videos thing, and am working on getting everything just right...hopefully the videos will just keep getting better and better~
In a nut shell, this is Ella's Story. Her name was officially changed to Mahalaleel Rising {meaning: Praise of God Rising} from Mistrial~ We call her Ella, {meaning fairylike, unearthly movement} I had seen Ella, then named Mistrial...in an online photograph when she was just about 6 months young. We had purchased Shadrach (Karino's Fire) 3 months earlier, and had him home, for a brief second I saw what I thought was a picture of him for sale on line and I told Jim, "whoa...he's sold!!!! They should have taken the picture down!!!!" Then I read the caption and realized I was looking a a filly version of him, named Mistrial. With a appropriately heavy price tag...12k, she was out of my range.... I kept checking up on her, because I couldn't escape the thought that her and Shadrach would make *wow* babies and that Carino & Horizon lines would nick really well together....and in this instance I loved the idea of breeding like to like.
One year at Midwest Horse Fair I saw Sue Davis had the Trakehners there & asked about Mistrial- she had grave news, that on Thanksgiving Day, of her yearling year, Mistrial's sister had ran full force collision right into Mistrial---people witnessed this accident, saying she was hit with a heavy front on blow, shoulder to shoulder and Mistrial fell to the ground- blood running from her ear- unable to move- once up they realized something else was horribly wrong- she could not use her right shoulder---At the time Sue told me this story, she said the future was uncertain for Mistrial and they really did not know what was going to happen to her. It had been suggested that she be destroyed- as the nerve had been severed and she has permanent muscle loss, and no one knew if she would ever be able to walk or certainly even be bred, as at that point, she still couldn't even walk, let alone carry a foal.
About a year after this conversation, I saw Mistrial listed for sale in a sport horse advertisement- at a reduced price- and something inside me just wanted to fly up to Denmark, WI and buy this filly that minute...Jim agreed, said to take the truck and go have a look at her, and gave me the blessing to make a deal on her. God Bless Sue Davis, she could see how much I wanted this mare. I am so grateful to Sue for selling her to me, and that she chose surgery over euthenasia for Mistrial. Sue is the one that filled me in on how horrific the injury was, and what a hard, long road that this mare had to take to survive. There is still visible muscle loss on her right shoulder, it took, as the vet said, about 2 and 1/2 years for her to recover, she will most likely never be able to be a dressage horse or jumper, as the muscle that held her scapula in full strength, just isn't there, you can feel her shoulder drop if you ride in a circle to the right. She is one athletic, tough mare, though, and even though her growth was stunted. We can only imagine what her scores would have been, had she had full strength.
I just love this mare. She's is a great producer, and the first time I saw her move at liberty, she literally took my breath away--and made my jaw drop! She's a survivor, to me a true Trakehner...and she looks so much like the mares in her pedigree, she is just true to form.

Thank you Christina for writing out the story for me. She is a true survivor in every sense of the word, and I bet she passes this on to her foals. Of course, she is beautiful too.
