EXCITING STALLION FOR WESTERN CANADA
« on: March 14, 2008, 04:15:15 PM »

I am pleased to announce that Klaus and Erika Bock of Trakehnerhof ranch in Hazelton BC  have purchased the Russian Trakehner VAL H from Troika stud farm.  Val H is a grandson of the legendary Pepel.  He is approved with several different registries including the ATA and CTHS.  He will be making the trip from Ontario to BC in the coming weeks.  It is exciting to have a stallion of his breeding/calibre joining us in the west!!  Stay tuned for more details.

Val H is no longer approved with the ATA.  He had his approval withdrawn for failure to meet the performance requirements.  If he does meet the performance requirements in the future, his approval can be re-instated.

Nope, I am corrected.  Klaus is getting the paperwork in order to re-apply for his full approval with the ATA.  Val H was in fact 100 day tested.   He was injured after that, but does in fact have the performance, it just needs to be sent in. Smiley
The stallion is fully approved with the CTHS just not liscenced at the moment.  Klaus will pay that once he has the horse.

Congratulations to Klaus and Erika!
I have 2 Val foals from last year. One out of a Kirow mare (another russian bloodline) and the other out of a TB mare. I was wondering why there was no other Val offspring out there besides Troika's and my own. Val is sure a powerful jumper and has rare valuable bloodlines. I wish good luck to Val's new owners. I hope we hear more about him and see more of him in the future.

I just thought some of you would be interested to see a couple of stills from a video taken of Val H from the other day being ridden by a friend of mine.  He is doing very well in his new home and is actually TURNED OUT with his mares and is LOVING every minute of being out on Klaus' ranch.  He is a very gentle stallion, super easy to handle and ride.  He hadn't been ridden in years and my friend had a marvelous time on him, he says he had the best canter he's ridden, I am going up to the ranch myself in a few weeks to see Val, I will take some good photos and such of him while I am there.
Unfortunatley, unless you live close to the Trakehnerhof for live cover,
Val H will not be available for any outside breeding, as there are no AI services in that remote of an area Sad

That's really too bad.  Are they considering frozen?

I doubt it, they live about a 15 hours drive away from anyone that could collect him and freeze semen.  There 'may' be a chance of him coming down here to Langley in fall......'maybe'.  Haven't discussed with them in full what they are planning.  I am taking a quick trip up there within the next couple of weeks to ride him, take photos, video, see my stallion's filly from last year, visit my mares, etc.  At that point, I'll know more about what the plan is with Val H.  I am sure if there was enough interest in breedings they would have him collected and frozen.  We'll see...  at this point, he is just breeding their own mares, that is what they bought him for. It seems a shame to have him up there and not offered to outside mares IMO.

It is a shame, particularly since once his fillies are breedable, they still have to go to outside stallions.  Have they considered learning how to do the collections themselves?  Most of the stallion owners I know do not call in a vet to collect.

actually, I just had a talk with Klaus about this earlier today.  He said that if there is interest in breedings, he will probably either take Val over to Terrace to collect at someone else's farm (there is a breeder in Terrace who does her own collections on her stallion for shipping)  or he will get her to teach him how to do it and to prepare the semen ( I told him I could even show him how when I go up there).  (they would probably just collect him off a mare, he is SUPER to handle-very much a gentleman)  Val will be getting his ATA approvals reinstated here shortly, Klaus is underway to get it paid and hand in the necessary paperwork.  So yes, if there is interest I believe he will do it.
