Smiley Hey, I just wanted to *officially* welcome Joshua  {my son} to the Treffpunkt.  Next generation, WELCOME!   A lot of you know him from his photography skills...he's also becoming a rider and has high hopes of being a top DSHB handler.   He actually told Ken Borden, Jr. that he wanted to be as good as him someday, and to that Ken said something like "Good, cuz I'm getting old!"  It was too funny!  I've been giving Josh lunge lessons & we were trail riding until the bugs took over the forest!!!!
WELCOME Josh!!!!!

While I do trail ride on my own...but...most riding I do is on the lunge line!!!!!!!! 
Mom says I'll be a good rider doing lunge lessons...
so yeah, I am working on my riding as much as possible.

We don't have an indoor, so we ride while the sun shines!!!!!!!!
Sometimes rain or shine!

Very nice!  I am fascinated by the swimming pictures.  Looks like fun.  If you ever are in KY and just want to practice your photography...    Grin

YES, YES, YES!!!!  Your mom is absolutely right - this is waaaaaaay too often overlooked.  I can tell in 2 seconds if a rider's spent the requisite time on a lunge. 
They sit into the horse, and are effective w/their aids (probably because their extremities aren't being used for balance!).

Listen to your mom, Josh . . . she's a smart woman and you'll be a MUCH better rider for it.   Smiley

Hear, hear!  When I finally was put on a longe line, I learned why I'd never been able to sit properly.  I so wish I'd had the opportunity when I was a lot younger.  Good for your mom, and good for you, Josh!

And good for you, too Joy!  It's a smart person who's willing to "go back" and work on this most fundamental of basics. 

Regardless of what stage you're at in your riding, riding on a longe helps improve the seat and quiet the hands.

My mom is very smart... and I do enjoy the longe line... Hey at least im on a horse right? well I think that the way my longe lessons are done are crucial to plus I am riding a two year old for the most part now. You can see her at my new site...
