Performance Matters!
|
The e-mail below came today from Maren. I'm reprinting because it made me SO happy. Anyone who saw Elfengeist approved saw what a GREAT TK stallion can be. The movement, nerve and overall presence was simply breathtaking. It broke my heart 2 yrs. later to see him so tense he was about to jump out of his skin and literally grinding his bit so loud it was audible 100's of yards away
So, HE'S BACK! Read below; nice to be able to tell a tale w/a "happy ending" for a change:
I was so happy to read a ton of good comments on the recent "resurfacing" of Elfengeist. I know you guys can relate to my joy ;-)
After years of abuse under saddle and then complete neglect after he lost his approval in Baden-Wuerttemberg (stallions there have to shine in competition, otherwise they lose approval), he was sold to Austria 2 years ago and I thought that was the last we'd hear from him. Nope. They "reworked" him and everybody I talked to after his recent appearance at the Trakehner Day in Hessia commented on how happy he looked and what exceptional a job these people did with him. They're planning to take it slow and bring him back into competition in 2009.

I am so happy to hear that someone took an interest in Elfengeist and is undoing all the harm that some stupid person or people did to him. I guess the people that hurt Elfengeist were never held accountable.

The 2002 NMS Champion, he was purchased by a HOL stallion station. We'll never know what really happened, but as TK's don't do well when made to "force-fit" a particularl (over-restricted) riding style. Here's video of him in a stallion show under the old owner's rider (his jaw's really 'set', yet he's STILL able to reach underneath himself!). Can't wait to see video of him w/the new riders.

What a great ending to a very sad story. Wouldn't you think that if someone bought an incredible horse, and he deteriorated under their tutelage, they might look at their methods? And to have lost his approval! Surely, that should have been a wakeup call!
I'm so glad someone else knew what to do--and did it. Hooray for Trakehner lovers!
The video Kim posted is amazing. I can't imagine what he's going to look like moving freely!
